Message from Mrs. Harp
Mensaje de la Sra. Harp
Panther families,
I hope you are all enjoying a nice weekend. I sure am loving this Fall weather!
Penngrove participated in the Great Shake Out drill last Friday, and it went GREAT! We got through the whole thing: "shaking," evacuation, search and rescue, site assessment, student release and more in 30 minutes! Our goal is to get it under 20, so we will continue to refine our practices.
Conferences are coming up, so please be sure to mark your calendar for your assigned times. Teachers are on a tight schedule and it will be very difficult to reschedule if a meeting is missed. We want to be sure you are getting time to hear about your child's progress!
Halloween info: we are having our parade at 8:30 on the track- please join us!
Masks are ok for the parade only. Teachers may individually decide if there are other appropriate times throughout the day as well.
Weapons which accompany a costume are not allowed at school. Please save those for trick or treating!
Extra scary costumes need to be saved for trick or treating as well. Please remember we have 4 and 5 year olds on campus and we want this to be a fun and silly day for all!
What are you leaning into this week?
Mrs. Harp
โ Principal Harp's Question of the Week โ
โ La pregunta de la semana del director Harp โ
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response!
(No need to put names or identifying words.)
This week's question:
What is your favorite thing about Fall?

Halloween Parade ๐ Desfile de Halloween
Parents are encouraged to be in (kid-appropriate) costume & observe the parade from the inside of the track - classes will be on the outside of the track.
Student costumes need to be school appropriate and all props need to be
non-violent (remember we have 4 year olds on campus).
Masks can be worn during the parade, but not at another time during the school day, unless specifically stated by their teacher at an appropriate time.
Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda in Hallway
Join us for our first-ever celebration of Dia de los Muertos celebration on Wednesday, November 1st. Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a beautiful Mexican tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. We believe it's an excellent opportunity to teach our children about the importance of remembrance, tradition, and unity. To make this event meaningful, we invite you to bring photos of your loved ones who have passed away. Details: Bring your photos to the office on 10/31 or 11/01 Date: Wednesday, November 1st Location: Penngrove Elementary School Office hallway. Photos can be added throughout the week. Simply bring a framed or unframed photo to the school on the morning of November 1st. We'll create a beautiful ofrenda (altar) to display these photos. Your participation will help us teach our children about this rich cultural tradition. Please be sure to put the student's and teacher's name on the back of the picture so we can return it after the week long display.

Hello Panther families!
I hope you are all enjoying the change of seasons.
Pease join me Tuesday Nov 7th from 8:30-11:30am or 1-2:45pm to install a pathway in our smaller Pollinator Habitat site in front of room 10. You can snag a sweet parking spot and help out for a bit before you pick up your kids, many hands make light work!
Students have been caring for our worm composting system, having cucumber water on hot fall days, watching SO MANY butterflies hatch out on our passion vines, harvested 70# of pears we are fixing to eat soon and SO much more. Thank you to our awesome parent volunteers for continuing to show up for garden class! Reach out anytime aortiz@petk12.org

Lego Contest // Concurso de Lego
You can build any lego sculpture. The ideas are endless: a house, a car, a boat, an animal, a dance party, a Star Wars shipโฆ.anything you want. Keep your sculpture to 150 total lego pieces or less, and be sure not to use large baseplates. We are looking for original Lego sculptures. This means that store-bought Lego packages are not gonna win.
You can turn your Lego Sculpture into the office. Just fill out this entry form with your childโs name so we can be sure and get your Lego masterpiece back to you. Each grade level division will have their work displayed in the awards case in the main building by the office (dates below). They will be on display for one week. You should bring in your lego entries at the beginning of your childโs contest week.

Reading Kit Request
We're so excited to introduce Penngrove Reading Kits this year. This is a fun way to bring new books home to read as a family, support a struggling reader, encourage a love of reading, or just for FUN! If you're curious which kit would be best for your reader, don't hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher.
Detailed description of these kits are here. Otherwise, feel free to browse the kits in the office or reach out to Mrs. M with any questions at amiljkovic@petk12.org. There are multiple kits at most levels with different titles to keep things interesting :)
Families can check out 2 kits per student at a time and return in 2 weeks.
