Burchfield's Bulletin
November 13-November 17 (School Days 58-62)
My Note to You
*Marriage CAN be hard, but it IS worth every struggle.
*Who you marry is the MOST important adult decision they'll ever make.
*Marriage requires 100% commitment from each participant.
*Little indiscretions or mistakes are sometimes not even worth mentioning.
(Both will make their fair share and need grace.)
*If they are lucky, age will happen and it CAN make the marriage even better IF they have committed to making every day a great day for their partner.
Of course, I could not help but parallel marriage with our jobs.
*Teaching CAN be hard, but it IS worth every struggle.
*Where you decide to teach is a hugely important decision.
(Working with people who support each other and enjoy being together is a gift.)
*Teachers need to commit themselves 100% to the success of their students when they are on the job. The students deserve it!
*Every indiscretion or mistake a student makes is not worth mentioning. (We all make mistakes and we sometimes need to just take advantage of the teaching moment.)
*If we do our job well, the year will get better everyday. (By the way, if we do our jobs well, each year will be more successful than the year before.)
POSTED WORK
Moving on, I know that with your busy schedules and routines, it can be difficult for some to get to the other hallways and especially into other classrooms. Below, you will find examples of work where teachers have integrated artwork into the academic work of our students. (For some reason those first grade painted turkeys look so authentic.) Though a picture is worth a thousand words, these pics do not show/tell the whole story. I hope you are talking to each other about new ideas for art integration in your classroom. Enjoy!
Speaking of artwork and academic work that is in the hallways, remember that students as well as visitors are always looking and noticing the work displayed. Remember these things:
1) Work should be changed out at least once a month.
2) Work should be accompanied by documentation of the Academic T.E.K.S. taught and correlating Arts T.E.K.S.
3) Work should be as legible as possible. (Part of the editing process)
4) Many grade levels have their primary writing focus posted on their bulletin boards. (Yea!) However, the matching work shown on the bulletin board should show high development of those skills.
For an example:
- We write paragraphs with complex sentences, commas, phrases, and clauses.
- We write multiple paragraphs that are sequentially organized. We use commas, quotation marks, and compound sentences.
- We write sentences using adjectives and adverbs.
- We write sentences that begin with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation.
I know that these are skills you will work on throughout the year. However, before posting the work for the world to see in the hallways, they need to have been edited for those skills specific for your grade level (and of course, previous grade levels.)
In closing, I want to remind everyone that Wednesday is a faculty meeting. Everyone needs to be present. There are some important items we will address. Each PLC needs to bring a copy of the WIG, LEAD MEASURE(S), and SKETCH of your team's SCOREBOARD if you have it ready. We will use the faculty meeting as PLC time to help each other better understand our next steps. Together, we are making the biggest difference possible for our students.
Thanks, Joy
People really READ our students' writings. Make them proud of their writing progress.
DON'T FORGET TO FEATHER EACH OTHERS TURKEYS THIS WEEK!
COMMUNITY VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION
There were so many folks who shared their positive thoughts about the program with me but I also overheard so many talking about our portion of the program. I want to thank everyone who participated in the preparation of the performance but also those who excused students for the performance and those who covered classes while Debra and Lisa were at the performance.
As a school of the arts where performances come with the territory, we have to work around the students off campus work without penalizing them for the time they are representing our whole school. Also, thanks for posting pictures taken before or after the performance.

Mason's Message
This week’s message is about being thankful. So, THANK YOU!! Thank you to the faculty and staff of The Academy of the Arts at Bransom for welcoming me into your family. Thank you for challenging your students, yourself, each other and me. Thank you for being a role model, a mother, a mentor, a friend and sometimes a shoulder to cry on for your students and colleagues. Thank you for your sacrifices, our dedication, your drive, your sleepless nights, your tired mornings and your smile that brightens the day of more people than you will ever know. Thank you for making mistakes, your imperfections, your weaknesses and for being human. And finally, just a big ‘ol plain larger than life and from the heart
THANK YOU!!!!
Congratulations to Ms. Neel and her Kindergarten class for bringing in the most cans for the canned food drive benefiting Harvest House. As an extra incentive, we made this year’s canned food drive a class competition. Ms. Neel is now the recipient of the first annual “Golden Turkey Award” and will be presented with her award this Wednesday at our faculty meeting.
We need creative ideas for the annual Christmas card or video. My idea is to use the song, “The 12 days of Christmas” but reworked with lyrics related to school; something like “The 12 Days of Teaching” or “The 12 Days ‘till Christmas Break and this is what I see?” Here’s a sample:
Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive O - Four Meetings,
Four parent meetings
Three snotty noses
Two more referrals
And all the teachers going craaa-aazy! (stole that from a You tube video)
Something like that...get creative!!

Now, GO and BE HAPPY PEOPLE!
HAPPY PEOPLE LYRICS (Song Recorded by Little Big Town)
Happy people don't cheat
Happy people don't lie
They don't judge, or hold a grudge, don't criticize
Happy people don't hate
Happy people don't steal
Cause all the hurt sure ain't worth all the guilt they feel
If you wanna know the secret
Can't buy it, gotta make it
You ain't ever gonna be it
By takin' someone else's away
Never take it for granted
You don't have to understand it
Here's to whatever what puts a smile on your face
Whatever makes you happy, people
Happy people don't fail
Happy people just learn
Don't think they're above the push and shove
Just wait their turn
They always got a hand, or a dollar to spare
Know the golden rule or what you're goin' through
Even if they never been there
Can't buy it, gotta make it
You ain't ever gonna be it
By takin' someone else's away
Never take it for granted
You don't have to understand it
Here's to whatever what puts a smile on your face
Whatever makes you happy, people
These days ain't always easy to find
They're the ones that you want standing by your side
No time for greed, if they need some, give 'em a slice
And we'll all be happy people
Well, life is short
And love is rare
And we all deserve to be happy while we're here
