Teacher Apprecaition

Please Tell an Educator Thank You!

Last week was teacher appreciation week, which we like to call staff appreciation week at Pella Middle School. If you would be so kind, please drop a quick note to an educator for his/her efforts this year. A little 'thank you' goes a long way, and this has been an unprecedented year! We are excited to say that we are going to make it and that we never had to shut our doors regardless of our circumstances. We know we cannot do it without you, and we thank you all for your support!

Dr. Ann Lebo, Iowa Department of Education Visits

Mr. Josh McCollam and Mrs. Susan Lyons had a special visit to their PLTW classrooms last month by Dr. Ann Lebo, Iowa Department of Education Director. Dr. Lebo has heard of the great initiatives these instructors are making in their classroom and in our district, so she wanted to see for herself!

Iowa Conditions for Learning Survey

Big picture

Pella Middle School will administer an annual school climate and culture survey called Conditions for Learning to students in grades seventh and eighth grade. This survey administration is required by the state’s plan to meet a federal law called the Every Student Succeeds Act. Our school will conduct the survey in later in April, and the letter outlining this is below.

8th Grade Students Read to Lincoln and Madison

The 8th grade students wrote children's books, and they were able to share their books with students at Lincoln and Madison Elementary this past week. Students from all three buildings said this was one of the best days of the year. Thank you for leading this, Mrs. Knight, Boots, Bjustrom, and Bogaard.

Students vs. Staff Basketball - Another Epic Battle!

It was Students vs. Staff in a basketball battle that won't soon be forgotten! Anytime there is competition amongst students and staff, it has always proved to be heated. In the end, the staff squeaked out the victory against the 7th and 8th grade students. Well done by all, and what a great display of competition and sportsmanship.

The Counselor Connection

Wow, I can't believe May is here. What a blessing it's been to be able to attend school face-to-face all year long!

Your seventh grade student has signed up for his/her desired exploratory courses and music electives. Please note that this does not guarantee they will take only/all of their selected exploratory courses, but rather gives us flexibility when building schedules. We would like to see students take courses they enjoy, but also know the value of working through something new. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Student schedules will be released the week before school starts in August via Infinite Campus. Each 7th and 8th grade student will receive one paper copy of their schedule during orientation/laptop rollout on August 19th and 20th.

If you have questions about your student's schedule for the upcoming school year, please contact me via email at jourdan.vanwyk@pellaschools.org.

Have a fantastic summer!
