New Principal Announcement: FSI Middle
We are excited to announce Mr. Mark Barber as the new principal for Frontier School of Innovation Middle School.
Mr. Barber has been an educator for over 16 years. He spent the beginning of his career teaching elementary school music, first in the Atlantic City (NJ) School District and then in Prince George's County (MD) Public Schools. He then worked for two years as a classroom teacher in Maryland and Missouri before joining the Frontier School System in 2011. Mr. Barber spent one year as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages at Frontier School of Innovation before becoming the Dean of Academics at Frontier School of Excellence. He is currently a member of the Administrative Council at the Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In this role, he helps to plan professional development opportunities for all member districts of the RPDC.
Mr. Barber grew up in southern New Jersey and earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Rowan University (Glassboro, NJ) in 2001. He later earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (emphasis in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) and an Educational Specialist degree (PK-12 Educational Administration), both from the University of Missouri--Kansas City.
Mr. Barber is excited to begin his new role as Principal at Frontier School of Innovation Middle School.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
Frontier’s Communications & Outreach Team organizes a bi-monthly Outreach Talk Series with Community Leaders. Each talk series begins with a catered luncheon at our Student Engagement Center, followed by a guest speaker or panel presentation on an engaging, relevant and current topic that impacts our students, families, and community.
On September 26th, our panelists included distinguished representatives of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Each panelist shared their professional and personal success stories and challenges, as well as what their college journeys and current careers were like. The audience included Frontier STEM High School seniors, staff, and local community leaders.
We enjoyed hearing about your journeys and experiences! Thank you, SHPE!
Parent Champion Luncheon
On Thursday, September 13th, Frontier Schools hosted a Parent Champion Banquet for all their parents who greatly contributed to the school, staff, and students during the 2016-17 school year. During the banquet, several parents stood up to share why they chose Frontier Schools and why they continue to keep their child with us. Parents told us they’re appreciative of our supportive and patient staff, advanced curriculum and strong school community.
We appreciate your feedback and support! Thank you, Parent Champions!

Playground Project! Donations Welcomed!
FSI Elementary is home to K - 3rd grade classes for approximately 500 students. These school years offer them their last opportunity to still be kids before moving on to middle school.
With our increased enrollment, recess on the playground at FSI Elementary needs additional space and updated equipment. We hope that you will be able to join us in funding a much needed playground. Any support will be highly appreciated by Frontier Schools and the students we serve. Can we count on your support? If so, click here to complete your secure online donation. If you have any questions, please email Jennifer Watson at jwatson@frontierschools.org.
Note: All donations are tax-deductible and a donation receipt will be provided.

Home Visits
Home visits are going strong at Frontier Schools. Teachers and school staff have visited more than 100 families in their homes since the start of the 2017-18 school year.
With our diverse student body, home visits are paramount in bridging cultural gaps that might exist. These visits also provide opportunities for staff to understand their students better by visiting them in their home environments. The goal is to foster a true partnership - with both students and their families.

Naviance Program
Frontier Schools is implementing Naviance, a web-based program for grades 9-12th. Naviance is a college and career readiness solution that helps districts and schools align student strengths and interests to postsecondary goals, improving student outcomes and connecting learning to life. High school students are able to reach their Naviance accounts through their Frontier Database accounts. The services that Frontier has purchased to implement in the 2017-2018 school year are:
eDocs:
Transcripts, ACT scores, recommendation letters and all other documents that are required by colleges will be submitted online within seconds to the colleges that the students applied.
Course Planner:
Students will be able to select their high school elective courses for future years through Naviance.
Surveys:
Students will take surveys such as Career Interest Profiler, Cluster Finder, Do What You Are, and Career Key to explore their interests, strengths and career options.
Curriculum:
The curriculum is designed to prepare students for college and career. Students explore career paths, complete college applications, surveys, learn how to write essays, create resumes, etc. The curriculum includes 15-20 lessons per grade level and focuses on self-discovery. The lessons will be integrated into English classes and will be taught through the collaborative efforts of the English and Counseling Departments.
Alumni Tracker:
College and Career counseling services and support will continue even after students at Frontier graduate by the help of this tool.
