Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
January is PERSEVERANCE month. And, onward we go! We define perseverance as pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles. A good dinner conversation starter this month might be, "What was your biggest challenge this week and how did you work through it?" And, if they answer, standing in the rain during our evacuation drill on Wednesday, I can relate! You can read more about our two emergency drills directly below.
It's been a busy short week at Hallinan - especially in the evenings. We held Kinder Counts, our Information Night for incoming Kindergarten Parents, last night, and the PTO Meeting is tonight at 6:30 pm in the Library. And yes, you are all invited! The PTO meeting agenda is listed below in the PTO section.
If you would like to view the Kinder Counts slideshow, along with the amazing Kindergarten Video, you may find it here or on the Hallinan Website, under the News section. If you know anyone who has an incoming kindergartener next year, please pass this info on to them.
I hope to see you at the PTO meeting tonight!
Melissa Griffiths
Emergency Drills
We conducted a "Secure" drill and an "Evacuation" drill yesterday. We practice drills to prepare our students and staff for what to do in case of an emergency. A Secure action is called when there is a threat outside of the school building. During Secure, all students and staff are brought into the secure building and all exterior doors are locked. Classes continue uninterrupted inside the building. During Evacuation, all students, staff and visitors evacuate the building to a safe space, most often the field/track. Please feel free to visit iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html to learn more.

Hello Hallinan Families!
Slice of Gratitude
We want to recognize the lovely Helen McQuillan who has helped us create the "New Family Chair" position here at Hallinan. Helen volunteers to show new families around the school and the PTO supplies a welcome kit. Hallinan has such a wonderful and kind community and we are so happy Helen is representing all of us and greeting our newest members.

Card Art
You should have seen your child's Card Art proof by now! Children were given the proof by their teachers and it came home in their backpacks. Card Art was a little later than normal this year because of troubles with the printing company. Luckily, our two Card Art Chairs Kim Hottel and Amber Batchelder were able to put in the work needed for this tradition to continue. If you received yours and tried to order on Membership Toolkit but were not able to find the button, that issue has been fixed! Please check again! You can purchase your own child's artwork in the form of a greeting card for $16 for a set or you can buy the entire class's art for $24 dollars for a set. Here is a link to Membership Toolkit:

Hallinan Auction!
Next week, your child will be bringing home a flyer asking if you have a valuable good or service to donate to our spring auction. We are also looking for parents who want to be part of the Hallinan Auction team. We already have two leading chairs and they will need assistance with various tasks. If you want to sign-up to be an auction assistant please email: hallinanpresident@gmail.com
OBOB
Hello Parents! We are looking for some assistance with OBOB. We are looking for Moderators and Score/Time Keepers for the battles. Please follow the link below to sign up:

School Store!
The student store is now open Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 8 - 8:15. The store is managed and run by our 5th-grade students and the proceeds go to the 5th-grade celebration and help support the PTO.
Missoula Children's Theater
If we are going to bring community theater to Hallinan, we need your help! May 1st through the 6th the famed Missoula Children's Theater is heading our way and we have several needs.
Housing needed!!!
Can you house one or two creative directors this spring? Missoula is sending two directors to audition and then teach up to 60 Hallinan kids how to perform. They will be working with K-5 and they need safe, comfortable housing to accomplish that huge feat. They each require their own room from April 30th-May 7th. Please see the Sign-up Genius below:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4aa9ae2aa3f49-host#/
Piano player needed!!!
We need a piano player to accompany the cast at a few rehearsals and at both performances.
The rehearsal time requirements are Wednesday, May 3rd from 5:15-7:15. Thursday, May 4th from 2:15 to 7:15. Then the dress rehearsal and first performance (at a school assembly) is on Friday, May 5th from 9:00 am to 2 pm. Saturday, May 6th the kids put on their final show for parents and family from 10 am-11 am.
Please see the Sign-up Genius below:

Video Parent!!!
We would LOVE to capture one of the performances on video. According to Missoula Children's Theater, an amateur videographer usually captures one performance that the PTO can sell to parents. We will be hosting two performances. One on Friday, May 5th during school hours at 1pm and one the next day May 6th at 10 am which is for parents and family members. We would be asking you to attend the Friday performance so you can get the flow of the play and then video the parents and family performance.

Cheers for Girl Scout Troop 20550
Hallinan's 2nd grade Girl Scout Troop 20550 bridged from Daisies to Brownies at City Hall on January 4th. They worked hard this past year to reach this milestone. Some of their favorite service projects were creating Welcome Boxes for children going into Foster Care and collecting over 600 lbs of goods for Hunger Fighters Oregon food pantry.
