DPM Newsletter - 5.5.23
Friday, May 5, 2023
Dear DPM Families,
As we prepare for the implementation of next year’s DPM Bell Schedule, we will continue partnering with our parent community to answer your questions and help you and your child understand the complete student experience at Deer Path for the 2023-2024 school year.
Understanding the Schedule
In case you’ve missed it in previous newsletters, below are links to the new schedule, an FAQ document based on previous questions, a video message from principals and our APT, and a place to submit any wonderings you or your child still may have:
If parents would like to hear more about the new schedule and ask questions in person, we will be hosting an event on the morning of May 15th at 8:35 am. The Deer Path Admin team will present the logistics of the bell schedule, review the development process, and explain why the decisions were made. There will be time at the end to allow for general clarifying questions. If you are unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to reach out to an administrator or submit a question here.
World Language Clarification
The same World Languages offered this year will be offered next year, including French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin. As a reminder, in the new schedule all Encore periods will be 38 minutes per period and occur daily. We are also currently reviewing our 5th grade World Language interest forms and may be contacting parents next week to clarify preferences. Class sections for each language are decided based on the volume of requests that come in from the interest forms. The District runs a staffing process and builds the master schedule based on final placement decisions and we ask that families rank all four world languages, with a goal of honoring one of the top requests, if possible. As always, we are dedicated to continuing to deliver a high quality and robust World Language program for our students.
Roll-Out for Students
Student input has been an important guidepost in our schedule revision process. We began the schedule process with student focus groups to gather the student perspective on what to change and what to maintain. Two key features of the schedule include a four-minute passing period, which will help students feel less rushed between classes and more consistency throughout the day with a common bell schedule. Students shared they would like to have bells to ensure the beginning and the end of class is clear.
We’ve already met with student representatives from our 5/6 student council, and DPM administrators will officially introduce next year’s schedule to all 5th, 6th, and 7th graders during homeroom talks on May 12th.
Again, if you have specific questions about your own child, please feel free to contact any of the Deer Path Administrators directly. Thank you for your partnership during this process!
Sincerely,
Megan Eigenrauch, 5/6 Principal
Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal

DPM and District 67 News
Parent Input Form
This is the time of year in which we begin making decisions about class placement for next year. When creating classes, many things are taken into consideration, including the individual learning styles and personalities of each student. We strive to have a well-balanced, academically heterogeneous group of students with a full range of learner abilities in every classroom. If you would like to share information about some unique aspect of your child's learning style and/or any specific academic and/or social concerns that should be considered, please respond to this Google Form by Friday, May 12. Please note that specific teacher requests will not be considered. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment as we work to create a wonderful learning experience for each and every student here at Deer Path.
Spring MAP Testing Make-Ups
DPM students who missed or did not finish any Spring MAP test this week will have the opportunity to make up reading, math, or both next week Tuesday through Friday. MAP (NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress) is a Common Core-aligned, adaptive, computer-based assessment. Our teams compare winter to spring achievement and growth data to inform instructional planning and goal setting for individuals and groups of students; and measure growth from year-to-year.
May is AAPI Month
Calling all Asian American Pacific Islander Families: May is Asian American Pacific Islander Month, and the World Language Department is celebrating the heritage, culture, and achievements of Asian American Pacific Islanders. We would love to celebrate and share the rich AAPI cultural heritage of our DPM community. Please fill out this form to share favorite traditions, recipes, pictures, or anything else you would like. District 67 Anaphylaxis Response Committee
It is always our goal to provide a safe environment for all children, including those with life-threatening food allergies. Anaphylaxis is a severe systemic allergic reaction from exposure to allergens that is rapid in onset and can cause death. It is the policy of the Illinois State Board of Education, according to Public Act 102-0413, that each school district must have an anaphylaxis policy that must be reviewed and reevaluated every three years and be updated to reflect any necessary and appropriate revisions.
We are convening a small group of school community members to review and make recommendations for updates to our District 67 anaphylaxis policy. The committee will meet approximately three times between now and next Fall 2023. If you are interested in participating, and feel you have relevant background, please fill out the form below.
Please submit your application and attach your resume using this form. Applications will close on Wednesday, May 10 at 5:00 PM. Thank you!
