First Grade Weekly Update
March 17, 2016
Spirit Week
This week the Willow Creek student council hosted a Spirit Week for all of the students. On Monday, the kids were invited to donate a $1 and wear a crazy hat. The student council raised over $75. Nice work everyone!.. The money will be going to a local charity.
On Wednesday, we all had fun wearing our pajamas to school. And on Thursday the annual Wearing of the Green took place.
Please send a healthy snack each day!
Assessments and End of the Quarter Grades
Next week is the last week of the third quarter! I can't believe how quickly the school year is going by. As we end this quarter I will be assessing each student on their reading fluency, math fact fluency, evaluating a How-to Writing piece with a formal rubric, and testing them on their independent reading and math through the STAR testing. Also, we will be concluding the math unit on place value and will have a written test next Thursday. My goal is to share all of these assessments with you the first week in April when we return from spring break.
Fieldtrip
On Wednesday, May 25 the first graders at Willow Creek will be heading over to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. We will be leaving school at about 9:00 am and will return to Willow Creek by 1:30. Our trip has us participating in a guided tour investigating bugs and plants. Then we will have a picnic lunch and head over to the Children's Garden for some small group exploring. This is an awesome place to visit. We are so excited to once again participate in this "Bugs Abound" Adventure. More information will be sent home after Spring Break.
