Virtual Boys Council & Virtual Girls Circle

We are pleased to announce that The Center for Prevention and Counseling’s 7th grade Virtual Boys Council and 8th grade Virtual Girls Circle recently began at the Sparta Middle School. These 10-Week leadership workshops focus on increasing participants’ self-efficacy, making new friends, and confidence in both social and academic settings.

We Are Not Buying It Prevention Program

All 6th grade students will be participating in the WNBI: We’re Not Buying Prevention program at Sparta Middle School during their Health and/or Physical Education class. The Center for Prevention and Counseling offers this program to middle school students in an effort to empower students to not buy into the myths of “Everyone is doing it” and “It’s the cool thing to do."

The WNBI: We’re Not Buying It Prevention program is a 6-week prevention program designed to promote awareness and knowledge about marijuana use, prescription drug use and cyberbullying. The program’s focus will be social media and is designed to help students decode messages in popular movies, social media and music that promotes marijuana use, prescription drug use and cyberbullying.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Help students identify the reasons why individuals may start using these products (i.e.peer pressure and advertising)
  • Provide resistance tools individuals can implement
  • Emphasize the value of social support for resistance through various group activities
