Weekly Tech Update 1/4 to 1/8

2021, LET'S GO!!!!

Anyone else suffering from the post-vacation hangover? Had to set an alarm today. I had to iron a shirt. Pants were a little snug from all the holiday binging. I was required to sustain mental effort today. It was a rough day back! 😂😂😂

All kidding aside, it was nice to come back. Time to get back in a routine and get back to work. I can't remember who tweeted the following quote, but I liked the optimism that it encourages. "A new year is like a new book with 12 new chapters with 365 unwritten pages."

What message will your 365 pages share?

The Four O'Clock Faculty and The Secret Sauce

If you joined us this past spring during one of the Friday Empower Hours, we were joined by author Rich Czyz. Rich authored the book, The Four O'Clock Faculty, which talks about how teachers can take control of their own professional development. Since he has authored a second book, The Secret Sauce. I won a copy from his Twitter challenge and he sent me an extra copy to share with my colleagues. As the cover suggests, the book contains the "Essential Ingredients for Exceptional Teaching". So, paying it forward, I would like to give it away using Twitter. To enter all you have to do is get on Twitter and:

1) Construct a tweet sharing your favorite strategies, resources, and/or ideas that make up your Secret Sauce.

2) Tag myself(@Math3203) and Rich(@RACzyz) in a tweet.

3) Use the hashtag #4OCF in your tweet.

4) Follow Rich(@RACzyz) and myself(@Math3203) on Twitter.

1 winner will be randomly drawn this Friday at 2:15 PM. If you need assistance with Twitter, reach out and we will get you up and tweeting. Just a heads up, we don't have access to Twitter through the school's filter.

Catlin Tucker's Station Rotation Model for Hybrid Learning

Sill looking for ways to integrate stations into the classroom while observing social distancing guidelines? Check out Catlin Tucker’s strategy for Station Rotations for Hybrid Learning. Catlin provides strategies on how you can run a rotational model without the students having to violate any safety protocols. Worth the read, check it out!

Here is a template based on Catlin Tucker’s model and created by Stephanie DeMichele.

Who Got Caught?

Has anyone noticed the new “I Caught” option on the Empower website? If you haven’t, head on over and check it out. The “I Caught…” form is courtesy of the Cyclone Learning Zone. I’m not going to spoil it, you’ll have to check it out. Here’s the link.

Would you Mind Sharing?

It seems like it's been a year, but we made it through the first 4 months! I have been fortunate to witness colleagues finding their stride and using strategies and techniques that have helped with the start of this unprecedented school year. However, there are colleagues that could use some ideas on strategies and techniques that could help in their transition to this style of hybrid/remote learning. If you are willing to share, please click on the Google Form below so we can compile some strategies that have been effective for you. Just drop a quick note in the Google Form and I will be in touch. THANK YOU!!!

Feedback Welcomed and Encouraged
