Principal's Message
Oak Creek Families,
It is hard to believe we are already at the last week of school, but here we are! There is a lot of important information below about the end of the year, and enrollment or verification for next year. If you have students returning to LOSD next year, it is important that you go online and verify their enrollment information. If you haven't already done so, please log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
- Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact our office. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.
Read below to find more information about the end of the school year events: Field Day, End of Year Celebrations and saying goodbye to our 5th graders. We hope you'll be here to join us! To make sure you see everything, click on the message so that it opens in your web browser. If you have any questions, please see the FAQ section below, or feel free to reach out to myself or Carrie Beach at beachc@loswego.k12.or.us.
Thank you,
Barb Keeton

Special Shout Out and Thank You to the SMART Reading Program.
Oak Creek Elementary School has been fortunate to continue our partnership with SMARTReading.org. This year is its 30th year. SMART is a non-profit Oregon-wide organization that pairs adult volunteers with students to provide one-on-one reading support and new books for students to keep.
SMART has been working with the Oak Creek Kindergarten students for several years. During the pandemic, SMART has provided a book delivery model to our kindergarten students with 10 new books to keep. We want to thank SMART and our volunteer coordinator, Sarah Bass. We hope to be able to welcome back in-person SMART adult volunteers in the Fall. To learn more about SMART and volunteer opportunities, visit SMARTreading.org.
2022-2023 Enrollment Verification

- Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.

State Assessment Score Reports
This summer, LOSD will deliver students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s assessment reports will appear on your ParentVUE Documents page in late July. As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:
- An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.
- Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
i-Ready Spring Assessment
Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.

Volunteer Requirements

Upcoming Health Lessons
Counselor Corner
Dear Oak Creek Families,
During May, we will work together to practice the character trait of COOPERATION in our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, classrooms, and throughout our school.
As a school community, we will be examining how Cooperation looks, sounds, and feels. Cooperation is about assistance, support, collaboration, & teamwork. It is a necessary tool in our toolbox for creating a community that cares for one another.
Students will be encouraged to use cooperation skills such as communication, self-awareness, and the ability to step up (or step back) when the time is right to best support whatever group you are working with. Using these skills will help us to work alongside one another and create things, together, that are better than anything we could create on our own.
The definition students will be learning this month is COOPERATION: working together
& helping others.
Here are links for extension activities to explore COOPERATION further as a family:
