Talent Show Information

It is time to get ready for our annual Deep Wood Talent Show. Since the school year ends sooner now and May is so busy, we decided to move our Talent Share Day and Talent Show to March. The Talent Show will take place on Friday, March 29th at 8:00 a.m. That Friday is also Grandparents Lunch Day, so we hope to have a lot of special visitors that day. Our Talent Share Day will be on Thursday, March 28th, the day before the Talent Show. You can find all of the information, including the schedule for Talent Share Day, guidelines for the student acts, and the form for students to sign up to participate on the “Talent Show” page of Mrs. Choate’s website by clicking here: Deep Wood Talent Show Information

If you have any questions or need help filling out the Talent Share Day Form, please e-mail Mrs. Choate at lorinda_choate@roundrockisd.org or call her at 512-464-4421 or send her a note in your child’s folder. Please fill out the form and send her any music by Friday, March 15th. We can’t wait to see the creativity of our Dinos, and everyone is invited to both the Talent Share Day on March 28th and the Talent Show on March 29th.

Spring Book Fair

Save the date....the Spring Book Fair will be March 25-29 (right after we return from Spring Break)!

Volunteers will be needed. Please email amber_barr@roundrockisd.org if you're interested in helping.

We NEED your help! We would like to finish the year strong by collecting as many Box Tops as we can to get Deep Wood the most money we can. Last year, we earned almost $850.00 through Box Top submissions. This year, we have collected about $500.00 in Box Tops. Please ask your family, friends, and neighbors to cut and collect unexpired Box Tops from the things they already buy. Our school receives $.10 for every Box Top submitted on our behalf.

Instrument Selection Drive

When: Saturday March 2nd

Where: Chisholm Trail Middle School

12:00 – 3:30 pm

All incoming 6th grade students who selected Orchestra or Band as their 1st or 2nd choices must come! If you are unsure or just want to try instruments out, please feel free to come! We would like to encourage students with the last name starting A-M come from 12:00-2:00pm. Those with the last name starting N-Z 2:00pm-3:30pm. If that doesn’t work for you, come when you are available.

Band will be in the CTMS cafeteria

Orchestra will be in the orchestra building at the back of the school

Since February is Black History Month, our students have been learning about jazz history and many African American musicians in their music classes. Students in kindergarten through second grade have learned about the music of Ella Fitzgerald, a vocalist, and Louis Armstrong, a trumpet player and vocalist. Students in third through fifth grade have focused on the bebop jazz style of Charlie "Bird" Parker, a saxophone player, and Dizzy Gillespie, a trumpet player . A guest speaker from the Austin Jazz Workshop visited on Monday to talk about Parker and Gillespie and to demonstrate improvisation on the saxophone. Third through fifth graders will attend a concert by the Austin Jazz Workshop band this Friday, March 1st, at 9:30 a.m. in our cafeteria. Any parents are invited to come listen to the concert as well. A live jazz concert is a great way to start your weekend!

What’s the most exciting time of the year? Drum roll, please….. It’s the time when our entire school officially kicks off our Kids Heart Challenge program! We used to hold a jump rope for heart event, but the Kids Heart Challenge is a brand-spanking-new, out-of-this-world, more fun than ever program – and we can’t wait to participate!

For more than 40 years, the American Heart Association has supported schools like ours, and we’re thrilled to work together again this year to have fun, raise money and learn how nutrition and being active can help us live longer, healthier lives.

First things first! We have an easy way for you to raise money online by having your very own fundraising page.

Simply follow these steps:

  1. JOIN OUR TEAM Go to www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge (on your phone or computer) and search for our school then click “Sign Up”
  2. DOWNLOAD THE APP for iPhone or Android by searching for Kids Heart Challenge. You can unlock your Heart Heroes, bring them to life, and raise donations on the go!
  3. JUMP START YOUR DONATIONS $10 teaches more than 200 adults how to save a life by recognizing the signs of heart attack or stroke and how to administer CPR or use an AED. YOU can make a difference!

Help us fight heart disease by earning our instant heart heroes Echo and Finn with your first online donation of at least $10. Earn Ruby right away when you raise at least $40 online.

Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association. We are so excited to be learning about heart health on our campus.
