SOUTHSIDE PARENT CENTER
Southside is proud to announce the opening of its new Parent Center. The goal of the Parent Center is to provide parents of our students with a variety of materials and resources to enhance their child’s education.
Hours of Operations: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Each grade level has a clearly labeled section in the Parent Center. The teachers of the grade level have worked together to create materials that they think will benefit children of their grade level. Feel free to browse the Parent Center for materials that would benefit your child.
Leveled guided reading books will be available for you to check out. The levels are clearly labeled on the bags in the Parent Center. We ask that you treat the books/bags with the utmost respect and return them in a timely manner. We want many Southside children to be able to benefit from these materials.
Additional Information:
· Please sign in when visiting the Parent Center. We will like to keep track of how many visitors we are getting.
· A computer with internet access will be available in the Parent Center.
· Any items with barcodes will need to be checked out in the Media Center.
· Most items are copies/handouts that you are free to take and do not have to return.
· Some examples of the handouts are:
- ABC and Blends Charts
- Handwriting Paper
- Leveled Guided Reading Book Lists
- Recommended Educational Websites and Apps Lists
- DIBELS Help Sheets
- Story Comprehension Sheets
- Math Word Problem Ideas
- Math Skill Practice Sheets
- The list goes on…
The Parent Center is new to Southside this year and we do plan on adding materials as we are able to. We will work with our fabulous PTO to get needed materials. The Parental Involvement Committee meets at the end of PTO meetings and we welcome anyone interested to join us.
We would like to thank members of the Parental Involvement Committee for getting the Parent Center up and running the very first year:
Andrea Neville, Parental Involvement Coordinator
Parental Involvement Committee Members:
Carla Eifling, Barbara Crain, Elaine Arnold, Jennifer Giese, and Vicki Joyner.
Thank you to: Mrs. Wilson, Toby Cook, and Regina Hardy for barcoding and organizing the guided reading books.
Special thanks go to Mr. Willy Coyle for assembling the bookshelves in the Parent Center, and to Mrs. Hanna and Mrs. Bridges for their administrative support and to saying yes to all the wonderful things we have asked for!
