Winter Walk to School Day
WINTER WALK TO SCHOOL DAY! FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23RD! HOT COCOA, TREATS AND … .. COFFEE FOR THE ADULTS! TABLES WILL BE SET UP ON BOTH THE SOUTH AND NORTH PLAYGROUND WITH ENOUGH WARMTH, DRINK AND SNACK TO GO AROUND.
Thank you Corey Double Boldt and Powers Realty Group for helping support our kids and good cause.
And…. a great opportunity to donate gently used kids winter gear that your family no longer needs! Corey and PTO would like to encourage all families to support our very own Rachel Kumferman, McKinley's social worker, who is gathering items for future use. The purpose is to provide families and kids in need with the gear necessary to get through our cold winter months! Items in need: Gently worn boots, snow pants, gloves, mittens…. Drop off will be on both south and north playgrounds.
Hundreds of kids from the Tosa School District will bundle up for this walk. It kind of gets the energy out of us,” says some of the third graders of McKinley! "It's pretty awesome because we get to see a lot of our friends walk to school and play outside.” The idea for this winter walk will be to bring the kids together, bring the parents together and get a little spring fever out of our system! Come join the fun!

McKinley Chess Tournament Recap
McKinley Elementary’s first chess tournament held last Saturday went GREAT!! We hosted nearly 100 participants from SE Wisconsin and the McKinley team played and placed in every division.
The team won second place in K-12 (that’s right – our elementary kids played against middle and high school kids). Our K-6 team also took 2nd place and our K-3 team won first place!! Way to go!!
Thank you to Jean Hoffman, Terri Uden, Charlotte Garder, Juan Matute, and Lordes for supporting the chess team and helping us prepare for the tournament.
Thank you to coaches Robin Grochowski and Kyle Jain for volunteering your day and helping the kids win or learn.
Thank you to all of our parent volunteers - Troy and Angie Miller, Mike Atols, Brian Kuhn, Karen Suarez Flint, Lisa Krueger, Sharon Lucas, Matt Sanders, Ann Christianson, Jennifer Jaworski, Brian and Meg Malloy, Tim Dolan. Because of your help, we hosted 5 rounds of chess and still got home by 3:30. (That was a first for me in 2 years of tournament participation and I was the last one out the door!)
HUGE thanks to Christine and Tim Brunow for organizing and running an impressive concession stand, and creating all the lovely signage.
Thank you to the many parents who donated delicious treats for the concession stand. They were an enormous hit!!
Another BIG thanks to Heidi Engbring for creating and ordering the now iconic team tee shirts.
Finally, special thanks to Mark Seghers for organizing this tournament and volunteering his time and excellent mind teaching our kids more about the game.

Milwaukee Humane Society Drive Thank You!
Thank you to all who supported the Destination Imagination team the #Flying Wonders in their recent coin drive and paper towel roll drive. The team purchased food and treats for the animals at the Milwaukee Humane Society with the money raised. They also collected hundreds of paper towel rolls for the small animals at the Humane Society.
Congratulations to Mrs. Setzke's class for winning a popcorn party!
This service project was entirely student planned and run. Now the #Flying Wonders will present their project at the upcoming Destination Imagination tournament at Muskego High School Saturday Feb 24th at 10am. All are welcome to come cheer them on!
Snow Pants and Winter Boots Needed!
Do you have any clean, gently-used snow pants or winter boots laying around that your children have outgrown or no longer use? If yes, please consider donating them to Rachel Kumferman, School Social Worker. There seems to be a greater need for these items at McKinley, and we also share items between elementary schools when a student is in need. Please have your child drop them off with his/her teacher or to Ms. Kumferman.
Thank you so much for helping to meet the needs of all students!!
