Sixer's Sunday School
Weekly Update for Parents, December 2, 2019
I (Lucas) am VERY sorry that we have missed a couple of weeks worth of updates! It is not Mindy's fault (at all). She has sent me pictures and information but due to a hectic travel schedule, I just dropped the ball.
This week's update is a "catch up addition!" I promise to do better in the future!
What we missed on Sunday, November 17th!
The Lesson: Judah Taken Captive
We’ve seen it coming! Jeremiah warned, but God’s people in Judah continued to ignore the message and the messenger. We followed details in 2 Chronicles 36 that led us to the end of King Josiah’s reign, followed by his sons, grandson, and uncle, before leading to the fall of Jerusalem.
We uncovered some prophetic words of promise of redemption and salvation from Jeremiah and Isaiah. Turning to Matthew 1, we found many recognized names among Jesus’ family tree, including Josiah! In Luke 21:19, we found Jesus’ words to “Stand firm” or Ms. Mindy’s translation, “Hang in there!” Jesus gave a good word to his 1st Century followers that we need to hear today!
The BIG IDEA
God’s plans for us are centered in love and hope!
What you missed on Sunday, November 24th!
We spent much of our time completing the canvas project that are now hanging in our classroom...you should check them out some Sunday! Each one has a picture representing our Sixers on one side and a scripture verse they selected on the back! Very impressive!
The sermon was one Jeremiah and Luke. As you may know, when a sermon is written, there are a lot of things get left out, because of time or just because it doesn't "fit" as well as you might hope in the overall message. The Sixers were kind enough to let me share with them some of this information. This gave us a chance to make a connection to our lessons these few weeks with the Jeremiah passage that was used in worship AND for me to give a little historical backstory on why the Thieves were included in the crucifixion story. Maybe ask if they remember why?!
Of course the highlight of the morning for me was seeing some of our Sixers read the call to worship that they had written as a class based on Psalm 100! What a powerful way to enter worship!! Well done!!
The BIG IDEA?!
