Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Happy Friday, ECS Families!
One area that we find ourselves talking about often regarding our children is screen time and the appropriate time usage for technology. Unfortunately, the research being done so far is unanimously showing that the amount of screen time our young children are getting is only doing harm. A colleague shared a Screen Time Checklist with me that I wanted to pass along. This chart ensures that other healthier lifestyle tasks are completed first like building independence & responsibility, contributing to the home, reading, and playing creatively before screen time is allowed. Several sources I've read say that 0-18 months should have no screen time at all. And that for 2-5 years of age should have no more than 1 hour a day. That includes phones, tv, and iPads combined. A huge key is that we have to model this ourselves for our children. So basically...we follow the same plan we hold them too! This would be an adjustment for my home, but I'm going to give it a try. Check out the checklist below. I'm going to print this out and put it on the fridge so we can check it daily! I hope you will join me.
Our annual FOOD DRIVE is next week! There are two flyers down below that give details for how you can make donations. Please consider sending in items with your child, or dropping them off at the front office when you can! If you drop to the office, just make sure your child's name and teacher's name is clearly marked so we can give their class credit for their collections. Thank you, in advance, for all the donations I'm sure are to come in!!
We look forward to seeing many of you at our Valentine's Parties next week. I hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Have We Scanned Your License?!
Got a Sickie?!
If your child is not well- please keep them home.
Please be specific when reporting your child’s absence. Don’t say sick or ill, please give details such as : fever, Flu, cough and cold, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
It makes it so much easier to know when we need to deep clean classrooms when parents give details regarding absences.

The Counselor Corner
During guidance students will learn what empathy is and have an opportunity to practice empathy. We can cultivate empathy in many ways, but what is it? Most will agree it is the ability to understand others and others’ perspective. However, there’s more to it. It’s not just to understand, but also to value and to have compassion. Our students will participate in a lesson and have an opportunity to recognize and practice empathy.
Try to give your children opportunities to practice empathizing, and model expectations. You can also ask your child questions like, “What did you like about today?” “What did you not like about your day?” “How did you show someone you know how to be kind?” Daily conversations with our children will help guide them to be kind and compassionate to those around them.
