What's in the grant?
PERSONALIZING LEARNING IN GCS
Student Centered Instruction
Teachers will plan lessons based on student learning styles/preferences and daily assessments.
Students will know their own learning data with regard to mastery of standards. They will also set personal learning goals.
Students will have personal learning plans with their learning goals outlined on them.
Mastery learning will be used. Mastery learning is the concept that students will achieve mastery of certain skills prior to moving forward to more advanced, complicated ones. This calls for pre-assessment, planning instruction based on this data, post-assessment, and support and corrective instruction as dictated by the data.
Teachers will use assessment results that allow for flexible grouping, realignment of teaching, and personalization of learning.
Students will make choices regarding activities and incentives toward mastery.
They will also have opportunities to engage with peers to create learning activites.
1:1 Technology
The 1:1 platform initiative described in grant is based on career and college ready standards approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education.
Through this initiative, middle school students will have the capacity to experience curriculum using a variety of resources including digital resources as well as peers, teachers, or experts beyond the district, state or even country.
Accountability
We will be evaluated on the following measures:
1. How well our schools are implementing personalized learning environments
2. Student Achievement. EOG scores will be analyzed to see if our students are making growth in math, reading and science.
3. How students feel about their learning experience and coming to school.
