End of Year Assessment (EOY): PARTNERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT OF READINESS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER

The Atlantic City School District will be taking part two: End of Year (EOY) Assessment of the PARCC. The schedule is as follows:
  • Week of April 27th to April 30th (7th & 8th grades)
  • Week of May 4th to May 7th (4th & 6th grades)
  • Week of May 11th to May 14th (3rd and 5th grades)


Annual assessments are an important part of today's school environment. The tests provide valuable data that helps teachers and the district support our students academically. Uptown School needs your support during this important testing period! Here are some things parents and guardians can do:

  • make sure your son/daughter attends school each day during their testing week
  • make sure your son/daughter gets a good night's sleep during the testing week
  • talk to him/her about the importance of the PARCC test and about giving their best effort

Morning Enrichment Program

Uptown School Complex will continue to offer the morning program from 7:00 am to 8:00 am daily during the month of May. The purpose of the program is to improve academic skills through a fun and enriching curriculum. It is important that all participating students arrive on time and maintain good attendance to receive the most benefits from the morning program.

Uptown 7th Grader Wins Scholarship to 2015 Summer STEM Tech Camp

7th grader Mekk'Ah Law has won a scholarship to the week long STEM Tech Trek residential camp at Stockton University. Stockton has partnered with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Atlantic and Cape May chapters to offer full scholarships to the week long camp to 7th grade girls entering 8th grade. At Tech Trek, girls are immersed in a world that empowers and encourages them to think about themselves as future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and computer specialists.

8th Graders Win Essay Contest

Congratulations to 8th graders Michael Arrington, Jalil Hamilton, and Angel Santiago for winning the New Jersey School Counselor Association essay contest. Each student wrote an essay discussing how their school counselor can help them achieve their hopes and dreams for the future. All three students will receive a plaque and $250.The students and their families are also invited to attend a a dinner at the Hyatt Hotel during the month of May.

Student Council Presents: SPOTLIGHT

Grade: 7th grade student

Hobbies: Peter’s hobby is playing basketball.

Talents: Some of Peter’s talents are drawing, reading, and video games.

If you could visit anywhere in the world where would you go? (Where have you been?) Why?

Peter has lived in Africa for 11 years, and he would like to go to Paris for a better education.

Recent accomplishments: Peter has recently made the honor roll, and he won the art contest Home for the Holidays.

If you had a piece of advice what would it be?

‘’Every day is hard work, but people can open up a new chapter in their life with each new day.’’

Grade: Fourth grade teacher

Hobbies: Ms. Muhammad’s hobbies are to relax, and spend time with her family and friends.

Talents: Ms. Muhammad’s talent is being a great communicator.

If you could visit anywhere in the world where would you go? (Where have you been?) Why?

Ms. Muhammad would go to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, to complete a spiritual pilgrimage. Ms. Muhammad has been to Hawaii.

Recent Accomplishments: Ms. Muhammad has entered into grad school, joined a non-profit organization that’s dedicated to community service, and keeping her 16 year old son on a good path.

If you had a piece of advice what would it be? ‘’By respecting yourself, mind and body, you’ll be able to demand and command others to respect you too.’’
