Work Hard, Play Hard but WORK COMES FIRST!
From Ms. Linsley
It's because I know how essential reading is for learning, especially as students get into the older grades. In grades K-3 students are learning to read and in grades 4 and above students are reading to learn.
Here are 7 surprising facts about reading from We Are Teachers:
- Reading for 6 minutes a day reduces stress by 68%.
- Owning your own books matters. A lot. When children have a home library, as little as 20 books of their own, they achieve 3 more years of schooling than children who don't have any books at home.
- It doesn't take much to read a lot of words. Read 20 minutes a day and you'll read 1,800,00 words per year.
- Children who read 1,000,000 words a year are in the top 2% of reading achievement.
- Reading is the fastest way to build vocabulary. Children learn 4,000 to 12,000 words per year through reading.
- Classroom libraries rule. Kids in classrooms without classroom libraries read 50% less than kids in classrooms with libraries.
- Every book counts. If you read just one book a day to your child, they will have read 1825 books by their 5th birthday.

From Mrs. Maynor
Hello Parents!
Happy Friday!! Last week, I gave you information about ADHD. This week, I would like to continue on with that subject. As we know, we are in testing season. Our students have been studying and working hard and this time of year can be extremely challenging for many that suffer from anxiety and ADHD. Here are some tips on how to make studying a tad easier if you have a child with ADHD. Also, never hesitate to reach out for more support! It takes a village!
Tips for Helping Children with ADHD Study
· Set a timer and take frequent breaks
· Make studying fun
· Use acronyms and color coding
· Show how to find answers in a textbook
· Be patient and remain calm
· Allow child to use fidgets while studying
