Traditional Roots Healthcare is growing!

Traditional Roots Healthcare is growing!! We are thrilled to announce the addition of another acupuncturist to our team.

Sophia Bouwens will bring her amazing passion, insight and training to our St. Paul clinic and will be available Tuesday's and Thursday'sfrom 9:00 - 3:00pm.

Sophia's vision to work with underserved populations and to provide acupuncture as a healing modality started long before she brought her passion and skills to Traditional Roots Healthcare.

For those who don't know Sophia's story, and her healing journey, check out the latest update from Fox News.

Not only has she recovered from a traumatic accident and experience, Sophia is able to add her non-profit vision to ours at TRH! Our team at TRH, is committed to building sustainable community relationships, education, outreach, as well as our onsite and in-clinic acupuncture healing spaces.

As we continue to grow, we will begin to offer greater volunteer opportunities and way for other licensed acupuncturists to get involved with our clinic partners. Contact us to add you to our mailing list!

Community Engagement

We've been busy this summer!

We started the summer off with sponsoring the MS150 race and helped to provide free acupuncture treatments to riders post-race.
We also sponsored the Salute To Service Women, Red Ribbon Ride, Minneapolis Open Streets, Honor The Earth's "Love Water Not Oil" Tour, Cedar Riverside Health Fair, St. Louis Park Community Clinic, West Bank Block Party, and CLUES Wellness Day...whew!!

Now that it's fall, we are looking to focus more on building long-term clinic collaborations to better serve our local communities.

Intersted in volunteering? Email us at info@traditionalrootshc.org

Acupuncture For PTSD Treatment

Did you know? Clinical and experimental data suggest that at least some acupuncture clinical results are mediated in the central nervous system.

Functional MRI (fMRI) and PET studies on acupuncture at specific acupuncture points have demonstrated significant modulatory effects on the limbic system and subcortical structures.

fMRI neuronal signal reduction in the limbic system is not surprising in view of the therapeutic effects of acupuncture for disorders involving PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.

Treat Anxiety With Essential Oils

But besides increasing calm and well-being, using essential oils to treat anxiety also reduces the chances of developing stress and anxiety-related disease and complications like sleep problems, allergies, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.

Essential oils contain active and highly concentrated plant essences. And treating anxiety with essential oils offers quick results. According to a study conducted by scientists at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Vienna, Germany, the healing compounds in essential oils can be found in the bloodstream as quickly as five minutes after skin application.

While essential oils can be used topically, aromatherapy, or the inhaling of essential oils, is the most powerful way to treat anxiety.

Our Mission

Traditional Roots Healthcare is a Minnesota based, 501c3, non-profit dedicated to heal, strengthen and empower through traditional medicine.

Our vision is to organize sustainable, safe, and culturally diverse healing spaces that incorporate elements of traditional medicine such as, acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary and lifestyle guidance. Especially for underserved communities affected by acute, chronic, secondary and generational trauma.

Our goals include:

  • Offer services to groups such as: Veterans, American Indians, refugee, and victims of assault and natural disaster
  • Stay true to patients’ cultural traditions
  • Provide support and relief during natural disasters and community suffering
  • Educate communities with traditional medical techniques to empower them through life’s journey
  • Serve underserved communities

Your Treatment Counts!

Price breakdown and how it helps us serve those in need:

  • Any payment above and beyond the sliding scale fee for treatment is considered a donation and tax-deductible.
  • For example, by purchasing a treatment for yourself at $55, allows us to provide 3 community style treatments or 1 individual acupuncture treatment.

Our organization relies on the generosity of individuals like you. Without these donations serving these populations would not be possible. No donation is too small and ALL recommendations for patient engagement are appreciated. We are amazed by what acupuncture has done for us, and what we have witnessed it do for others. We hope to spread our excitement for oriental medicine and its 4,000 years of history. Our bodies are truly amazing when they are given the support they need.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and generosity!
