Trench Warfare
Trench Warfare: A type of combat in which opposing troops fight from trenches facing each other.
Trench warfare is a form of land warfare using occupied fighting lines consisting largely of trenches, in which troops are significantly protected from the enemy's small arms fire and are substantially sheltered from artillery. The most prominent case of trench warfare is the Western Front in World War I. It has become a byword for stalemate, attrition and futility in conflict.
No Man's Land
No Man's Land: Land that is unoccupied or is under dispute between parties that leave it unoccupied due to fear or uncertainty.
It is most commonly associated with World War I to describe the area of land between two enemy trench systems to which neither side wished to move openly or to seize due to fear of being attacked by the enemy in the process.
