Team:
Sometimes the paperwork, deadlines and mandates can force us to lose sight of what's truly important and the real reason we're here: providing the best education we can for the child.
Students today, for whatever reason, come to school with a multitude of issues of which we have little to no control over. We know from science that students can't learn without first having their basic needs met. We provide food at school so that takes care of that. We provide structure and discipline to address safety. But do all of our students feel welcome in our classrooms?
When they mess up, do we correct it and move on or let that irritation linger? All of our students need and deserve unconditional love, even when they make us frustrated. Find a student this week in which the relationship has been rocky and make an attempt to right it. They may not possess that capability (some might!) but we do. We are the professional educator and have the mental capacity to solve that problem. This will help that hippocampus swell up and allow for them to truly comprehend the academic material you are providing.
For Halloween, we will allow costumes. I encourage teacher participation.
Here are some guidelines:
-costumes must be in dress code (there will be some leeway here but nothing outrageous)
-no masks
-facial paint is allowed as long as we can recognize the student
I will communicate this with teachers and parents.
If you participate in Red Ribbon Week dress up days, you may wear jeans.
Finally...take the time to fill out this survey if you haven’t already. Thank you!
Have a great week!
Be intentional about engagement!
