Handbook Committee Help Needed
Sandwich Community School District #430 will soon begin the process of reviewing the
handbooks for each of the school buildings. This is an annual series of meetings to review the
policies and procedures in the handbooks to ensure that all users of the handbook have a clear
understanding of the contents. Please consider this great opportunity to become involved with the district. The dates and the times of the meetings will be given out at a later date. All of the
meetings would be conducted at Sandwich High School and last approximately 60-90 minutes. If you would like to serve on this committee, please contact your building principal.
Sincerely,
Michael S. Herzog
SHS Assistant Principal
Attendance
We know that there are a wide variety of reasons that students are absent from school, from health concerns to transportation challenges. There are many people in our building prepared to help you if you or your student is getting to school regularly or on time. Please be aware that we are obligated to report attendance that is excessive and without valid reason or medical documentation to our DeKalb County Truancy Outreach.
You may receive an attendance letter informing you of how many days your child has missed to date. You can check your student's attendance at any time in Tyler (attendance will show by class periods missed, not days missed). Receiving an attendance letter does not necessarily mean that your student is being referred to a truancy officer. If there is a major concern with your child’s attendance and they are referred to the DeKalb County Truancy Outreach, you will always receive personal communication from Ms. Venetucci.
When your child is absent please call the office at 815-786-8812. If we do not receive a call your student will be marked as unexcused. If you have any questions please contact the Haskin office.

FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL CHILDREN'S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH
Dental:
February is also National Children's Dental Health Month. Our district received some dental health kits and educational materials from Delta Dental. Please watch for these to be coming home with your students in the month of February and take some time to review the handouts and supplies together.
February is American Heart Month! Here are some links to ways your family can increase their daily heart-healthy activities:

Winter Weather is Here!!!
Winter weather is here. Our school policy is to go outside for recess any time the temperature, including wind chill, is 10 degrees or higher as stated in our handbook. Please make sure your child is properly dressed for the weather. Hats, mittens, boots, snow pants, and a warm coat are all needed for the colder weather.
If you ever need assistance getting winter clothing, please contact the Haskin office and we can assist you with locating resources.

2023 Sandwich Education Foundation Casino Night
The Sandwich Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 1994 to enhance the educational opportunities for the students of Sandwich C.U.S.D. #430. The Board of Trustees is made up of parents, teachers, and local business owners who volunteer their time to help support and enrich our schools.
Our biggest fundraiser this year is our Casino Night and Silent Auction, which will be held on April 15, 2023, at the Fox Valley Older Adults Community Center in Sandwich. Doors open at 6:00 and the casino games will open from 7:00-10:00. At the event, you will be able to test your luck on popular casino games like craps, roulette, and blackjack. Don’t worry you won’t be playing for real money so you can take a risk and bet big to help our students. We will also have dealers on hand to help teach games to our less experienced guests. Appetizers will be served and there will also be a silent auction and raffles. This event is always a fun night and a great way to support our schools. Tickets are $25 each and are available in the main office of each school or online by clicking this link.
