ENERGY!
We elected our Student Council officers today. A BIG SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Lowenthal and Mrs. Ma who are our Student Council Sponsors.
This was an exciting year as officer positions were open to Fourth and Fifth grade students, with the exception of our president, who is reserved for a member from our Fifth grade class.
In addition, for the first time all Kinder through Fifth grade had the opportunity to view campaign speeches virtually and VOTE for their officers!
Please see below will be representing Mathews for the 21-22 school year. Classroom representative elections will be coming shortly. We are so proud of all the students who considered running, chose to run and of course, those will lead this year.
We encourage our students to continue to look for opportunities throughout their lives to seek out experiences that interest them and to take a chance. Celebrate those opportunities when they come, but also remember you lead by example and make a difference each day!

APEX is almost here. Lots of information to review. A big thank you to parents who have helped to decorate grade level hallways and get the energy flowing! More information below.
PLEASE NOTE WE WRAP UP WITH FIELD DAY AND WE ARE LOOKING FOR ABOUT 40 VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THIS AN AMAZING DAY FOR OUR MAVS. Please see below.
ALSO EXCITING IS THAT RED RIBBON WEEK IS DURING THE SECOND WEEK OF APEX. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT WHAT WE ARE DOING (AND WEARING) FOR RED RIBBON WEEK!
********
It is hard to believe the first nine weeks is a wrap! We are excited to move forward and to continue to grow and learn each day.
Being at school is so important. Being at school on time is also important. We want to celebrate our commitment to our learning by being in our classroom ready to learn at 7:40. That truly means walking into the building by 7:30 or earlier if you wish for your child to eat breakfast at school in the morning. (Doors open at 7:00 a.m.)
Thank you for helping your child appreciate the value of an education by being at school in the classroom ready to learn when the 7:40 bell rings.

OCTOBER 19-29
We love the amazing leadership and character building portion of the Apex program as it focuses on developing student self-control and interpersonal skills that are vital for school and life success.
With this year’s #ApexAsOne theme, students will embark on an incredible two-week quest in search of the key to becoming great leaders, learning to dream big, and making a positive impact on the world.
These quick, engaging lessons tie in with our schools vision and mission, encourages students to create a positive environment, and inspires them to lead by example.
More info on how to make a pledge to support our school will go home next week!
#ApexLeadershipCo#ApexAsOne
#BuildingLeaders
Mathews is welcoming Apex to our campus beginning on October 19 through 29.
We will wrap up with the pledge drive 'Fundraising Fun Run' with our Field Day on Friday, October 29!
In addition to Field Day our last week of Apex will also be our RED RIBBON week so we are excited for our students to have such positive messages being celebrated on living healthy and being a leader!
Thank you to our PTA and Mr. Steele for bringing APEX to Mathews!
RED RIBBON OCTOBER 25-29!
Dear Parent(s):
Mathews Elementary will be participating in a national celebration called Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is designed to create an awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. Red Ribbon Week is a time for schools and communities across the nation to come together in the fight against drugs.
Students will be participating in spirit wear days, themed activities and have lessons from the counselor on healthy decision-making skills. Students will make the commitment to by reciting a verbal pledge and signing a healthy living banner. Students enjoy participating in the theme days, to show their commitment to being drug free. All daily themes are optional for students.
At Mathews, we focus on the many aspects of health and safety and teach age appropriate knowledge. You can take advantage of this time to open a dialogue at home and discuss issues like peer pressure and making healthy choices for a safe future.
