Belton MS Band Newsletter

School Year 2022-2023: Summer Edition

Welcome to Band!

Welcome to the first-ever newsletter of the Belton MS Band! This first issue has the necessary information for you to get the new school year started off right!

General information that applies to all students and parents can be found towards the top of every newsletter, while information specific to your child's ensemble can be found in that particular section by scrolling towards the bottom.

Be sure to read through everything and contact a director if you have any questions.

Band students and parents need to attend one of the registration days (come-and-go) in order to "Be Prepared" for the school year. Bring your instrument and all band materials/supplies to have it checked over by a director to make sure you have everything correct and ready to go for school. Plan on about 30 minutes per student to visit all of the stations.

Instrument and uniform fees can be paid at this time, as well as filling out ALL of the required paperwork. It is much easier to take care of this before school starts rather than waiting and having to pass forms back and forth from school to home and back. On-site help will be available, and please email Mr. Pulley if you cannot attend. See you then!

Band Registration

Monday, Aug. 1st, 8am to Tuesday, Aug. 2nd, 4pm

1704 Sparta Road

Belton, TX

Band Supplies & Materials

All supplies and materials are due on the second day of school, which is Thursday, August 18 this year. We suggest you start purchasing the needed items now (if you haven't already) because there will be delays if you wait too long. Plus you can spread out buying these items over the summer to make it more affordable. If you need more information, be sure to check out the Supplies & Materials page of our website.

Below are the 3 local music stores that have the supplies you need for Band at BMS. Just click on the picture that takes you to their rental website:

Attention New Percussionists

Additionally, students joining the Beginner Percussion class should click on this logo (to the right) to be taken to the list of needed percussion supplies from Lone Star Percussion. Order your supplies soon because items usually go on backorder!

Develop Healthy Practice Habits

Check out this video below from our buddy Mr. Chilton about Developing Healthy Practice Habits. He thoroughly explains the philosophy we prescribe to about learning the skills necessary to play a musical instrument.

Mr. Chilton will be helping to teach our Beginners this year using RC Theory, a video series designed to teach music theory and literacy. He will also be our top clinician this year for the TMEA All-Region Band!

Symphonic Band students should be practicing their scales every week during the Summer, which can found here by clicking on this link.

Last year was great with not only competing at UIL for the first time, but also earning Sweepstakes! We want to be even better this year as our group grows in both size and ability. New this year is After School Sectionals once a week starting the week of Monday, August 29. Oh, and by the way, no practice records for this group!

We would love to have you and/or your student's help for Band Registration on Monday & Tuesday, August 1 & 2. Sign up to help by clicking on this Sign-Up Genius.

Students in Jazz Band will need to purchase the red Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble by Mike Steinel (not the "Best of" book) that is specific to their instrument.

Our first performance takes place in the middle of October, so start practicing the first few pages of this book. There are recordings available when you purchase the book, or click here to access them and play along!
