BLAZER ACADEMY 2016

Blazer Academy is back for 2016! We are excited about the variety of classes this year!

Please take a moment to review the class information and sign up process.

DATES/TIMES: Classes will begin on Friday, January 29, 2016 and will end on Friday, March 18, 2016 for a total of 6 weeks. Classes begin at 3:30PM and end promptly at 4:30PM. Make up classes will be conducted for classes missed due to inclement weather or sickness/emergency teacher cancellations.

ENROLLMENT: Online enrollment will begin today, Friday, January 15th at 8:00PM and will close on January 22, 2016 at 11:59PM. Enrollment is limited for each class and is determined by the instructor. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Below is information to assist with the online registration process:

  •  Please complete each field
  •  You must register each child individually
  •  Each class is listed as the class name, grade levels, teacher and total cost.

You will have 20 minutes to complete your registration, including payment, per login.

Payment options include credit card and PayPal.

Please note: Class selections may be updated after class catalogue has been published. Before registering, kindly review new class information, updates to the existing selection, and age criteria. As soon as a class reaches its maximum capacity, a WAIT LIST will be introduced for signup. If a class receives less than 10 registrants, that class MAY be canceled and registrants will be notified and given a chance to register for a different class.

PICK UP POLICY: Children must be picked up immediately after the program ends at 4:30PM each day outside the main entrance "Yellow Doors." Parents need to make arrangements for their child to be picked up promptly. If a child is picked up late, a warning will be issued. After 2 warnings, your child will be asked to leave the program as we cannot expect our instructors to commit beyond the allotted time. Tuition will not be reimbursed. Students that attend the After School Program will be escorted from the Blazer Academy classroom to the cafeteria. If your child is leaving with another adult, other than the designated adult for pick up, please send a note to the class instructor.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR: We would like every child’s experience in our program to be a positive learning experience. If for any reason your child has behavioral issues, you will be contacted. If your child continues to have behavioral issues after the first warning, he or she may be asked to leave the program without a refund.

REGISTRATION: Visit the Bridge Valley H&S website to see the electronic list of course offerings and the link to register online.

Winter Weather and Recess

Winter weather will soon be upon us and that means it will be cold at recess.

The National Nurses’ Association has established the following guidelines for outdoor recess during the winter months:

*Feels like 25 degrees and above (considers wind chill factor) - Outdoor recess
*Feels like 16 - 25 degrees (considers wind chill factor) – Abbreviated Outdoor Recess to 10 - 15 minutes
*Feels like 15 degrees or below (considers wind chill factor) - Inside recess

Please remember to send your children to school each day with coats, hats, and gloves. Older students may think a sweatshirt will keep them warm, but over a thirty minute recess, a sweatshirt does not provide the insulation needed to keep children comfortable.

Cyberbullying Prevention Presentation for Parents

Network of Victim’s Assistance, or NOVA, is a valuable resource for our school district and the community, offering resources and personal safety education programs. They have presented to our students for almost 20 years. NOVA will once again be bringing their cyberbullying prevention program to all Central Bucks 5th grade students this January and February.

Please join us for a parent informational session on Cyberbullying Prevention on Wednesday, February 10th, at 7:00 pm at Groveland Elementary School, 100 North Easton Road, Doylestown, PA 18901. Parents and guardians of students in all elementary grade levels are invited. The snow date is Thursday, March 3rd.

Topics will include:

  • An overview of the NOVA cyberbullying prevention program presented to 5th graders
  • Current trends in Social Media, free message Apps, and online gaming
  • Examples, tips for parents, and Q&A with Detective Sergeant Dante Montella, Warwick Township Police Department

We hope you will join us for this important presentation.

Microsoft Office Download

Central Bucks School District has partnered with Microsoft to offer Microsoft Office 365 to students in Grades 5-12. Office 365's productivity suite enables students and teachers to share documents, access Microsoft software applications online and work collaboratively. As the district increases both teacher and student access to educational technology, we wanted to remind you of a great opportunity.

Microsoft Office is available free for students in grades 5-12. Students may want to take the opportunity to install the full Office applications on up to 5 PCs, Macs or tablets for free. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Students can learn more about the process here: http://www.cbsd.org/365

Once downloaded, students can work with classmates online and see each other's changes in real time with Office Online, the full version of Office or OneDrive.
