Principal's Weekly Update
December 4th-8th
Dear Families,
This Sunday begins the Advent Season and marks the start of the new liturgical year. Advent is a season of preparation of our hearts for the coming of Christ. Not only do we prepare for the celebration of the coming of Christ at Christmas, but also anticipate His Second Coming at the end of time. For us at Holy Name School, we have lots of activities planned in the coming weeks. Not only will we focus on the excitement for Christmas but we will use it as a teaching opportunity to teach students Advent and active preparation.
I am pleased to share that over $38,000 was raised through our Oktoberfest, $8,000 over our fundraising goal. A special thanks goes out to the Oktoberfest Committee for all of their hard work and time. We are also grateful for the donations, volunteers, and all other types of support that helped to make this event a success.
Sincerely,
Megan dos Santos
Principal

Poinsettia and Wreath Sale - Pick Up
Thank you to all who purchased wreaths and poinsettias. We had an incredible response. There will be two pick up days:
- Sunday, 12/3 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Monday, 12/3 from 2:20-2:45 p.m.
Wreaths will be available for pick by the door next to the playground.
After School Playground Policy
During the school day, recess and playground time are organized by grade level to ensure that our younger (and smaller) students are not injured while our older students are playing. After school, we are unable to provide supervision and ensure the safety of students from various grades playing together on the playground equipment. Due to this, the playground will be closed after school during pick up. Students are not permitted to enter the playground area during this time.
Dress Down Day - 12/7
There will be a dress down day on Thursday, 12/7 to raise funds for our school-wide Christmas party on 12/18. The cost will be $5. All dress down day rules apply.
Solemnity of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception - 12/8
Friday is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Students will walk up to Holy Name Church to celebrate Mass. Permission slips signed at the start of the school year provide permission for students to walk up to the church.
Children's Liturgy & Breakfast
There will be a children's homily this Sunday, Dec. 2 during the 10:30 Mass to kick-off the Advent Season. The Children's Choir will also be singing.
There will be a children's homily on Sunday, December 10 at the mass at 8:30. Mass will be followed by a family Faith Formation event. Breakfast (eggs, pancakes, sausage, and potatoes) will be served. Fr. Williams will speak about the Eucharistic in recognition of Eucharistic Revival.
Important Date Change: December 15th
We are in the process of rolling out a new anti-bullying curriculum from MARC (Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center) at Bridgewater State University. In order to support these efforts, the Catholic School Office has arranged for professional development for our teachers.
Please note that we have moved our SAL Day on 12/1 to 12/15. This means that there will be school on 12/1. There will be no school on 12/15. This will be a SAL Day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we are appreciative of your flexibility.
The S.E.A.L. Foundation Parent Network
The S.E.A.L. Foundation has initiated a parent network and invites parents of students who learn differently to join us at November and December parent meetings (December 18) at the Boston Tavern in Middleborough at 5:30pm.
Both of these meetings will be facilitated by special education advocate, Chris Atwood. Chris brings over 40 years of experience to each encounter she has with parents, school personnel and community members. She personalizes her presentations so participants get the most from their time together.
The November meeting will focus on “Strategies and Resources for Neurodiversity.” Chris will take the lead from the audience on how best to address their concerns and questions and provide information and tips.
Interested parents should contact Lynne Sarantopoulos at lynne@thesealfoundation.org.
