YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED
Computer Science Education Week is December 9-13 and Galatas Greyhounds will once again be participating in the Hour of Code.
This year, Mrs. Fortune and Mrs. Michalsky will be collaborating to bring an exciting robotics experience to our students in 1st through 4th grades. (Kindergarten students are already engaged in a full coding curriculum.) During this week, students will learn the basics of coding (creating computer programs), PLUS practice problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, sequencing, and exercise some creativity. To read about the goals of this global movement, check out this website: https://hourofcode.com/us.
To add to our Hour of Code fun this week, we will also celebrate our Galatas Tech Lab theme, “Technology is Our Super Power”. ALL students are encouraged to wear their favorite super hero shirt on the day they visit the Tech Lab OR the Library. (Students must still abide by the CISD and campus dress codes.)
The Tech Lab (and/or Library) schedule can be located here.
Thank you,
Mrs. Fortune and Mrs. Michalsky

CISD Police Activities League: Children In Santa's Dreams Toy Drive
The CISD Police Department would like to invite you to help us make a child’s dream come true. Beginning Monday, November 18, we will collect “NEW” unwrapped gifts for boys and girls of all ages. We are particularly in need of gifts for older children and teenagers. These gifts will be wrapped and given to families who might not otherwise have a wonderful Christmas without your help.
Please deliver all gifts to the Galatas front office. There is a bin set up for the toys. We would like to have all gifts in by Wednesday, December 11, to ensure that gifts will be wrapped in time for Santa to deliver.
If you have any questions, email Sergeant Julie M. Thompson: jmthompson@conroeisd.net.
The Police Activities League (PAL) has founded a Christmas program dedicated to less than fortunate children in the Conroe Independent School District. The need criteria for this Christmas Program is based on personal references from counselors, teachers, principals, and other school staff that work with children every day. Counselors work with parents and PAL in order to maintain the anonymity of the families. Children in Santa’s Dreams provide gifts and stockings for our children enrolled in school and their siblings that may be too young to attend. Citizens, service organizations, and youth organizations are invited to participate by donating new, unwrapped gifts, and/or attending an annual wrapping party where all donated toys and gifts are organized by age and gender. Each volunteer receives a family identified only by a number. The volunteer is asked to pick out and wrap the gifts selected for each child (the number of gifts each child receives is determined by the amount of donations and number of students referred by the program. In the past years, we have given 1-3 gifts per child, and one game per family. In 2017, Children in Santa’s Dreams provided gifts to 822 children in 350 families.
Many Thanks!
YEARBOOK COVER CONTEST WINNERS
In November, Galatas students were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite yearbook cover contest artwork. There were so many amazing displays of talent! The students chose the following students as the representative from each grade level:
