From the Principal
We continue to work out the kinks of Drop off and Pick up and are working on ways to improve safety. Our parking lot moving lane is going great thank you for that help!
***Tomorrow we will start having our youngest learners (YOUNG FIVES) parents parking in the parking lot at Drop off and Pick up. This will take 24 cars off of the cook rd. drop off and will allow the parents to stay will their students for line up.*** All of these parents will have a Y5 sign in their window, just like staff and Guest Teachers, and Pre-K parents. ***
Please make sure your student has:
- Extra change of clothes to keep in their locker in a ziploc bag with name on it
- 2-3 extra masks ( just in case)
- Refillable water bottle to bring in each day.
- Snack everyday!

Wayne County and District Covid Guidelines
Please know I appreciate you asking me clarifying questions and working with us as we navigate through each individual covid case. We received questions on close contacts so I wanted to Highlight the document that explains close contacts and draw your attention to updated guidelines as of September 21st 2021.
If a covid case is in your child's class you will receive the following
1. Letter to families in that classroom.
2. Monteith Community notification letter
If the case is NOT in your child's class you will receive
1. Monteith Community notification letter
Quarantine Protocols Close Contact
The updated guidance from the Michigan Department of Human and Health Services (MDHHS) allows close contacts that were masked to stay in school as long as they are following the testing guidelines outlined in the MDHHS document. Students and family members of close contacts must also monitor their symptoms for the next 14 days.
We continue to work closely with the Wayne County Health Department and are using the Wayne County Return to School Roadmap throughout the process this year, except in situations where our district has chosen to follow CDC and/or alternate guidance.
The virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person to person, through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. A person who is a close contact of someone who is infected with COVID-19 may experience COVID-19 symptoms typically within two to fourteen days after a person is exposed.
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. Symptoms can include: Fever(> 100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, loss of taste or smell, abdominal pain. There are many things that can be done to keep our schools, homes, and communities safer from COVID-19 and protect ourselves and loved ones:
Children and adults should stay home when ill.
Before arriving at school, please complete the WCHD COVID Symptom Screening Tool.
Washing hands often with soap and running warm water for at least 20 seconds.
If a hand washing station is not available, use hand sanitizer properly. Gels, rubs, and hand wipes must contain at least 60% alcohol. Dispose of wipes in the trash after use.
Practice Good Respiratory Etiquette (cover a cough with elbow versus hand).
Follow guidance for wearing a face covering and social distancing.
If you have questions, please contact Wayne County Health Department at their Main Communicable Disease Line (734) 727-7078 or After Hours Call Center (734) 727-7284.
Additional information can be found on the CDC website. Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued partnership this year.
