Mysterious Powders
Lab Report- Kiara Ahlstrom
Tests
The test my group chose to run include: iodine to test for starch because only one powder (green) has starch, vinegar to test for chemical reactions because only 2 powders reacted, physical properties to compare the mysterious powder to the other powders, and alcohol to test for chemical reactions.
Iodine test 1/4
This is test #1, iodine. We put a few drops in and it tested positive.
Vinegar test 2/4
This is #2, vinegar. It fizzed for about 60 seconds(1 minute) and then turned into a slimy, sticky substance.
Physical Properties test 3/4
This is test #3, physical properties. We noticed that the powder was both grainy with transparent, sticky crystals.
Alcohol test 4/4
This is test #4, alcohol. When we added the liquid to the mysterious powder, it got chunky. The liquid formed a clear, thick layer over it.
Results/Conclusion
For iodine the powder tested for starch so we know it has green in it. The vinegar fizzed for about 60 seconds(1 minute) which means there is red in the mixture. And for the physical properties there was sticky, transparent crystals just like purple.
