Principal's Message
December 05, 2022
Greeting Georgia Brown Families,
- Thank you to all the families who joined us for this year's Paso Robles Christmas Lights Parade. Despite the rain, it was well attended and students had a great time. A big shout out to our PTA and staff members for organizing our entry and the event!
- Report Cards: Your children should have given you their report cards on Friday. You also have access to report cards on your student's portal, just in case they never made it to you. Please keep in mind that every child develops differently and at different times, I hope you celebrate all the strengths they demonstrated and that the areas of growth can encourage some encouraging conversations as to how to improve in these areas.
- iReady Diagnostic Assessment: This coming week, our students will be taking their second diagnostic test. All students, in K through 5 take the math assessment and only students in 3 through 5 take both the math and reading assessment. We utilize the assessment results to identify growth, areas of need, and how to respond to these needs through intervention support. Please encourage students to get plenty of rest and to be in school unless they are sick.
Extended Leaves and Independent Study Packets
I would also like to mention that in order for your student to receive credit for those days absent, all the classwork provided MUST be completed and returned the day your student returns. Our teachers work hard to put together these laboring packets and often no work is returned by the student. Your student is accountable to complete the work provided and will receive absences for the time he/she was out unless the work is returned.
Having said this, please understand that nothing replaces the instruction students receive from teachers while actually in school. Please keep this in mind when making travel plans.
Dino-vember Reading Incentive
We would like to congratulate the following classes for gaining the lead this week on our reading incentive/contest:
2nd grade Zepeda 109,804 words read
3rd Grade Delgado 433,806 words read
4th Grade Potter 710,300 words read
5th Grade Collins 1,374,450 words read
1st grade as a team has read 1,457 books!!
We will be updating everyone weekly to announce those classes taking the lead. This month's competition will end on December 15th!
Please help by continuing to motivate your Tigers to keep reading!!
Toy Drive
Student Pickup
There were a few parents who created problems by leaving their vehicles abandoned in the drive-through lane. We ask that this area stay fluid and you will be asked to move your vehicle this week. Should this behavior continue, we will be forced to close the drive-through lane until 2:25. When you abandon your vehicle you are blocking traffic and causing many other parents to be stuck in the line. This behavior also forces other cars to pick up students in between the drive-through lane and parked cars, creating a danger because our students are walking between cars.
Additionally, reports have been received that some cars are creating a hazard by blocking cars on the street when they park illegally and leave their cars unattended. Although I can't do much about some incidents on public property other than to ask parents to be courteous to each other. I would like to remind everyone that drivers must adhere to established laws and that anyone can call the police to report incidents and request support if their car is blocked.
Hopefully, courtesy will prevail and we all do the right thing! If we can accomplish this other parents won't have to resort to these means.
