The students are continuing to work on their reading journals for their self-selected books. On my webpage I have the cycle days posted, so please remind your child a couple of days before their journal is due to work on it. I have it posted on my board at school, too.
The students were also given a paper on Wednesday, January 18th announcing the blue ribbon challenge for the 3rd marking period. This challenge will run through March 27th. If you have questions about the challenge, please visit my webpage to read the paper that I sent home on January 18th.
Here is what will be taking place in Mrs. Seufert’s classroom this month.
Word Work- We will continue to learn about pronouns. We will learn about antecedents as well as the different types of pronouns including reflexive, intensive, demonstrative, and interrogative. After we finish our study of pronouns, we will begin to learn about verbs. With our Word Work, we do various activities here at school to introduce skills. One of the activities we do will be to use websites to help enforce our learning. This is something the students can also do at home. They may get onto my diigo site, Study Island, and NoRedInk to practice and explore any skills that we are covering here at school.
Writing- This month we are working on persuasive writing. The students will get to select a topic/issue, determine a claim, and use evidence to support their claim. This will be similar to what we did with our argumentative writing except the topics will not be based off of texts.
Science-We will conclude our unit on light and sound. Our test will be on Friday, February 3rd. The students will have a study guide as well as their notebook to use to study. On Monday, February 6th, we will begin our next unit on electricity and magnetism. The students will have quizzes on Friday, February 10th and Thursday, February 16th. Please keep in mind that these dates could change if we have any inclement weather.
In February, we will be continuing with Unit 5 in math class. Please make sure your student is doing their homework each night. The students should have brought home the answer key for Unit 5, so you will have the answers for our homework assignment right on hand. We have a unit quiz every Friday based on the lessons we covered that week. Please review the Homelinks from the week to prepare your student for the Friday quiz. Congratulations to the following students for receiving a perfect paper (100 out of 100) on one or more of their fact fluency tests: Mia, Trinity, Tyler, Marquise, Morgan, Tristan K., Zachary, Austin, Kendall, and Ashton. They had 2 minutes to correctly answer 100 questions in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Please keep working on math facts as we will have another fact fluency test in May.
