Hampton Bays Middle School
Parent Express Bulletin #7
Reading in the Dad Cab
Being the parent of a middle school student isn't always easy. After a day of work, we can all identify with the second (and sometimes the third) shift of parenting (which usually includes dinner somewhere in there). In the Schug House, I often have to check my schedule against "the Dad Cab".
As time goes on, I've come to appreciate how valuable it is to connect with other parents. It feels good knowing that even when we're too busy, we still deserve the chance to learn how to be better...for our kids. And there are other people out there who feel the same way.
When there isn't time or the opportunity to talk to another parent, I try to take a few minutes each day to read whenever I can, wherever I can. Even if it's an article while I wait to pick one of my kids up, I love the idea that we can learn any time, anywhere.
Recently I came across a website that other busy parents may appreciate. It' called "Your Teen Magazine for Parents". The next time you find yourself waiting in the car, for your son's or daughter's afternoon or evening event to end, read something that will get you thinking...to get you learning. It looks like a great resource for parents of middle schoolers.
While I haven't reviewed and cannot endorse everything on this site, the middle school section seems to contain some good reading material: http://yourteenmag.com/category/teenager-school/teenager-middle-school/ . Included in this week's Smore, you'll find links to three articles from this site.
Happy reading!
Sincerely,
Dennis Schug
