Attendance Matters - only a few weeks left in the semester.
If your student has gone over 10 absences in any one class, you will be receiving an additional email from us with an opportunity to make an appointment to appeal your attendance. Meetings will take place during the 1st week of January 2023. Please watch for those emails next week.
As always, if you have concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach us at the following numbers:

Dropping and Adding Classes for 2nd Semester (HS ONLY - Deadline 12/21/22)
A) Those students that have a class for which they have already passed the coming semester.
B) Those who need to make up a semester of a required course because they have failed a semester of any of the Michigan Merit Curriculum required courses. These students should see the counselor (Ms. Smith) immediately; this is the student's responsibility.
C) Those who are judged incapable, by the teacher's recommendation, not their own, of being able to continue.
D) Extreme cases judged by the counselor and principal to require change.
Any student who feels they meet the above requirements and need to change their schedule must talk to the counselor to receive a drop/add form. If a student does not meet the above requirements and still desires to change a class, he/she must meet with the counselor. A drop/add form will be given to the student who must then complete all required steps.
The absolute deadline is December 21st, 2022. No reasons for late requests will be accepted - including illness and vacation.

Middle School News and Happenings
Looking for board games...chess in particular...
Middle School students will not be going outside at lunch until the weather turns nice again (March/April). However, we will go back to a gym-rotation system so that the students can get their energy out during lunchtime. Students who remain in the cafeteria are encouraged to bring board games and/or cards to play with during lunch. If you are looking to clean out your closets, please feel free to donate these items as well! I'm sure the students would appreciate having them.

News from the High School FFA
The Chapter Degree Ceremony took place on November 30th at Corunna High School. We had 34 sophomore members receive their chapter degree and our chapter Sentinel, Reese Jordan, assisted with running the ceremony.
We also hosted 2 State FFA Officers to present workshops to our classes on November 29th. These officers are recent HS graduates and current college students who travel to chapters around the state for events and workshops. They taught our FFA members about how to be an agent of positive change in their lives and how to be more involved in their FFA chapter.
We went to Zap Zone for a recreation on December 6th and brought 37 middle and high school students for laser tag and roller skating.
We also submitted applications for 5 FFA members to receive their Academic Excellence Award at our state convention in March. In order to qualify, members have to be a senior, 4th year FFA member who has a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Members who applied include Olivia Chapman, Julianna Goodrich, Charlotte Killinger, Kelsea Strzelecki, and Brooklyn Zakoor.
National Honor Society
Additionally, we have volunteered at the 100th annual Byron Alumni Banquet. It was great to see our students converse with the Byron Alumni and the smiles that were shown on both the Alumni and our students faces! Other things to note are that
NHS has also volunteered to help organize our own elementary library and work many concession hours at Byron sporting events.
Our next project, which is under way, is writing holiday cards for two different nursing homes and delivering them to around 150 patients at these homes. We hope that this will help fill their holiday cheer!! Our showcase at the high school is underway and will be continually updated as the year progresses. We are proud of the work our Byron NHS students have already done and we look forward to seeing them continue to service our community, family and friends!
