IMPORTANT NEWS AND REMINDERS
If you have not already done so, please use the sign-up sheet (attached in this newsletter) to sign up for a time to bring your child to the school for KRA testing. KRA testing is not the same as Star Testing.
Please cut apart the blue and white letter cards from your child's binder and place them in a container (Ziploc bag, Tupperware, etc.). We will be using these cards this week during instruction and in future lessons.
Interim reports will be coming home on September 24. Please make sure that all "DUE BY FRIDAY" assignments have been uploaded into Seesaw. If you are having trouble accessing Seesaw, please let us know. Also, make sure your child is spending at least 15 minutes per day on Lexia and Dreambox.

DAILY SCHEDULE
WEEK AT A GLANCE
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BE WORKING ON EVERY DAY?
Read books and use the pictures to talk about the characters, the setting, the problem/solution in the story. Track print from left to right, top to bottom, and front to back. Practice recognizing the letters of the alphabet (upper and lowercase). Talk about things that are the same and different with the way the letters are shaped (some are tall, some have straight lines, some have tails, etc.).
Practice name writing using correct letter formation. Remember, only the first letter is capitalized.
Sight words for the week: for, said, on, it, they
Practice the ball words (sight words). Each month we will focus on a different list of words using a sports theme. This month, we are learning our baseball words. Please see picture below for a list of all twenty words. Each week, we will focus on four or five words. Please practice these words at home by finding them in books, writing them, making flash cards, etc. The homework includes a sight word choice board. Please feel free to use the activities suggested to practice previously-learned words as well. Remember, these words must be memorized because they often don't follow the general rules of phonics and cannot be sounded out. Please DO NOT try to practice all 20 words at the same time. Go at your child's pace. If four to five words per week is too much, drop back to two or three. On the other hand, if they are ready to move on to more words, please feel free to work ahead.
LEXIA
Please encourage your child to do their best on LEXIA every day. This is a great program to build early literacy skills in a fun and engaging way. Students should plan to spend about 15 to 20 minutes each day on LEXIA. LEXIA is a required part of daily instruction.
MATH
Practice counting from 1 to 20 every day. Go farther if your child is ready. Practice number writing from 1 to 10.
Log into DREAMBOX every day for 15 to 20 minutes (required). This is an adaptive software program that will adjust to your child's needs while it teaches basic math skills in a fun and engaging way. Please allow your child to work independently.
DAILY MATERIALS
We will be using the following items daily:
- pencils, crayons (or markers/colored pencils)
- paper (paper can be found in the binder pockets and at the end of the packet)
- dry erase boards, dry erase markers, and an eraser (old socks work well)
- books (many can be found inside the supply bag)
- iPad/charger
This week for shared reading, your child will need their Poetry Notebook. We will be reading "Rain, Rain, Go Away."
Parents: Please cut out the blue letter cards that were inside the binder and put them into a container (Ziploc bag, Tupperware box, etc) for your child. We will be using these letter cards to sort letters, look at letter shapes, and to spell some words this week. You can purchase magnetic letters, if you prefer to do so.
DUE BY FRIDAY
Using Seesaw:
- Complete the Jack Be Nimble activity that was sent to your child in Seesaw. You will see a red circle above the 'Activities light bulb." Touch this Activities tab and the assignment will open for you.
- Complete three (3) activities from the Sight Word Choice Board that was sent to your child in Seesaw. Please upload each of the three activities you complete into Seesaw for my review.
MATH HOMEWORK
Using Seesaw:
- Use objects you have around the house to make shapes. You can use rocks, sticks, yarn, pipe cleaners, PlayDoh, etc. Please make the following shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and hexagon. Take a picture of your creation and use the writing tool to write the name of the shape on the picture to label it. Press the green circle to upload it to Seesaw for my review. Please be sure to build each of the shapes listed above.
