Reading Workshop
**at this point, your child should be able to read at least 20 words. Have you checked lately to see how your child is doing with reading these words? (Below is the list of words for your reference.)
Writing
During writing time, we have been working on writing How To books. We also continue working hard on stretching out the sounds in words, putting spaces between our words and adding ending marks (punctuation) in our writing.
Grammar
We have been learning about ending marks during our grammar study. We have been working on recognizing and naming the punctuation marks that go at the end of a sentence: period, question mark and exclamation mark. We learned that ending marks are like stop signs for readers. We also learned that ending marks give rhythm to our reading and our writing and that we read sentences in different ways, depending upon the ending mark.
Math Workshop

Conferences
Our conferences will again be held virtually. In the fall, we asked that you use your child's iPad and we called you via Web Ex. This time, we will be using a different method. You will be able to use any device and you will contact us through our personal WebEx link. We will send out this information again as conference time gets closer.

Valentine's Day
On Friday, February 12th, we will be having a Friendship party!
We are asking you and your child to create a Valentine mailbox at home. A shoe box with a removable lid would be perfect, but any flat-bottomed container approximately that size would be fine.
You are welcome to decorate the mailbox any way you and your child wish. If your child's valentine mailbox does not have a removable lid, please cut a 2” X 6” opening in the lid so that valentines can be dropped inside.
Please send the mailbox and valentines to school by Monday, February 8th.
We need to let the boxes and valentine cards 'rest'
for a few days before we open them.
Enjoy this activity with your child, and as always, thank you for your cooperation! If you have any questions, please be sure to contact us.
