Graduation Requirements
Our state graduation requirements are designed to ensure students have a solid foundation of reading, writing, math, and science skills, no matter the path they choose after high school. We encourage families to meet regularly with their school counselor to ensure their student is on track for graduation.
Here is a brief summary (with lots more information on our website)
- Earn 6 credits per year x 4 years = 24 credits
- Complete 25 service hours per year x 4 years = 100 service hours
- Pass WA State SBA testing in ELA & Math during 10th grade (students have the opportunity to retake SBA tests and pursue alternate routes if necessary)
- Complete a High School and Beyond Plan
25 service hours per year
9-11 grade: .5 credits earned toward graduation each year
12 grade: .5 credits earned & required for graduation
Why Service Hours?
Being exposed to different experiences outside of school can help students develop connections or ideas for their future plans.
Students have the opportunity to earn additional credit towards graduation.
Service hours help our students meet college acceptance requirements.
Helps students become more visible in our community.
They foster relationships with community members, which in turn leads to better references for resumes and applications.
The school board wants our students to be involved in community service and it is a requirement to earn a Rainier High School diploma.
