Treaty Oak
Treaty Oak is the last surviving member of the Council of Oaks. The Council of Oaks is made 14 trees that were the meeting place of the Tonkawa and Comanche tribes. Stephen F. Austin founded Treaty Oak in the 1830s. The Council Oaks died because people quit caring for them. In 1927, only one of the original 14 trees remained. The American Forestry association said this tree was the most perfect tree and was put into the hall of fame. The tree role in Texas History is to serve as a reminder for the history of Austin.
