FMS Counseling Department: Mrs. Burfield, Mrs. Horstmeier and Ms. Jo

Needing to see the school counselor?

Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. 6th graders will learn how to use this app on Tuesday, August 27th when counselors meet with them through their ELA classrooms. You can also ask your teacher for help. If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time .

Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:

Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Burfield works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at cburfield@fulton58.org.

Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.

Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

AFTER SCHOOL CHOIR: We missed rehearsal this week, and will also NOT have rehearsal next week. Rehearsals resume on Tuesday, February 18th!

Music 6: Our focus has been on beat and rhythm. We will be working on our HOPE playlists during the upcoming week. This is a project that allows us to explore the connection between music and emotions!

Arts Alive: The rehearsals are off to an excellent start! We are ALL learning all the music together so that we understand how our parts feed off of each other!

Choir: I'm truly proud of these students and their hard work! We will attend a new musc festival this year! Rather than participating in CMU Music Festival, we will attend Battle High School Music Festival on Monday, March 9th. More information to come.

CONCERT ATTIRE: khaki pants, black shoes, and a black choir polo shirt. If you do not have one, you may purchase one from me for $15. These polos are the same as those worn by FMS choirs for the past several years. Students may certainly borrow or buy one from a student who was in FMS choirs and no longer needs the polo.

Mr. Thomas and Ms. Neudecker

6th Grade Band: Sixth grade is constantly learning new things on their instruments and moving on to bigger and better music. We have begun work on the specific pieces we will be playing for the Parade of Bands Concert. The students are beginning to read longer pieces with more intricate part writing.

7th Grade Band: 7th grade is continuing to learn their solos and sight reading their new music. The band is also beginning to improve on their concert music. I hope you are enjoying "The Syncopated Clock" and "Prometheus Overture."

8th Grade Band: We've been working on our music for CMU Music Fest on Friday, February 28. Students have picked solos, and should be working on them!

Since NEMO Jr. High Honor Band chair auditions were canceled in January, we had to do an unusual method of chair placement based on initial scores sent in and a Google Form. Our kids did very well! The band is split evenly into two bands: red and blue. All of our kids are in the blue band. Their rehearsal and concert is Saturday, February 15. Ava Lairmore from the high school will join us because she made the All-District Jazz Band (they perform after the junior high bands that evening). For those going, an email was sent with information on February 6.

Guitar Classes: Both guitar classes are continuing to learn standard notation which is how to read the notes on a staff. Eighth grade knows five strings and Seventh Grade knows four.

Please consider following me on Twitter @MrT_FPSBands. I will be providing a daily playlist which your students will hear when they enter the room. You may also email me at chthomas@fulton58.org.

What's happening in the Art Room!

6th Grade:

We will be exploring some of the Elements and Principles and beginning our next project discovering how to make line work for us. We will look at optical lines and how lines can play tricks on our eyes. We will make connections to other disciplines and explore line, value, and shape as well as form and how it can be used in a variety of subjects as well as drawing applications.Students have begun work on their line drawings and using shading and value in a practical manner.

7th Grade Semester:

We are working in our first objective ELO2: Students will use subject matter and themes in art. Students will delve into “art about me” concepts and they will borrow ideas from their greatest resource, themselves, and learn about the art of illumination.

7th Grade All year.

Students will continue working towards our objective ELO 1: students will select and apply media techniques and processes. Students will be starting our “Old Barn” project, and learning about value and line on a much deeper level. This project takes several weeks.

We will finish these up in a few weeks, and then try our hand at creating 3d models of our barns.

8th Grade all year:

Students will finish work on Coat of Arms We also began working on Abstract painting, where they will study various works of abstract art, and create a unique painting using the concepts they learned. This will take several weeks and it will be a slow process. They learned about the different varieties of abstract art like Cubism and Expressionism. they are going to work in several combined elements and create a balanced and interesting composition. These should be really fun!

8th Grade Semester:

Students have moved to our second objective ELO4. Students will examine artworks and bring them to the present time. We will explore the world around us with MEMES and parodies and look at Grant Wood's American Gothic as a staging area. Students will recreate Grant Wood's painting into a drawing that modernizes it, and places it into our current times or they may choose to parody it.

As always, If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate in contacting me.
