Welcome Back SLHS Students & Families
I hope you have enjoyed your summer and were able to spend time with family and friends. I am looking forward to the 2019-2020 school year and welcoming our students back on September 5th. The beginning of the school year is always an exciting time with new staff, new students and new expectations for a positive school year.

Schedules
Your 2019-2020 schedule is enclosed and is also accessible through the SchoolTool portal. Students who are still enrolled in Credit Recovery Summer School and/or taking an August Regents Exam will not receive a schedule until August 23rd. The scheduling process began last January. Counselors met with students, selection sheets were completed and course selections were mailed home with a message encouraging families to review. Please understand that elective courses originally selected may not appear on the final schedule. Every effort was made to keep the original student requests, however, courses may have been replaced with an alternate course.
Changes to student schedules may only be made for the following reason(s):
- FAILURE OF A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT WHICH MUST BE MADE UP
- LESS THAN THE MINIMUM 6.5 CREDIT/ YEAR REQUIREMENT IS MET
- SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF A SUMMER SCHOOL COURSE NOT FACTORED INTO THE SCHEDULE AND NEEDS TO BE
- ADDING A COURSE
For the first day of school, all students will receive a copy of their schedule.
What is Advisement?
The advisement period is a regularly scheduled period of time during the day when teachers/counselors meet with students for academic, social, or future-planning. Advisement is taking the place of the old activity period. However, the major differences are that it isn't optional and it is scheduled in the middle of the day instead of the end. For the first five weeks, students will be scheduled in their grade level groups of 15-20 students. After the five weeks, we will evaluate how to schedule students the most effective way. Students will be available to see a teacher or teachers during this time. We are also holding guidance counseling meetings, extracurricular meetings, full class meetings and assemblies during this time. Enclosed is the NEW schedule for the 2019-2020 school year. Door# 1 opens at 7:00 a.m. The students' day will be from 7:40 a.m.-2:40 p.m.
Closed Campus
For the first two days of school this year (September 5th & 6th), we will have a closed campus. These two days will be used to educate all Juniors and Seniors of our expectations. Open campus privileges for Juniors and Seniors will begin on Monday, September 9th providing we have received the properly signed documents. The documentation needed for review and signature will be provided to the Juniors and Seniors during homeroom on the first day of school. Please have your child return the signed documents to their first period teachers.
