Stoller Weekly

Calendar It...
- Thursday, June 11th - Last Day of School
Good afternoon Stoller Families,
It is hard to believe that the 2019-2020 school year has come to an end. Although we would have loved to be with your children on this last day, we understand that health and safety were a priority.
Below there is a video message for our 6th and 7th graders. Eight graders will receive a separate message.
As we look ahead to next year, there are a lot of unknowns. Please check your emails regularly. There will be communication either from the district or from the school regarding next year.
These past two years have presented some challenges for me and for our community. Stoller has risen to the challenge each time and our community has been supportive and empathetic. It is a privilege to be the principal of this school. I am humbled by the heart and compassion you show towards each other.
Have a wonderful and safe summer. I will be in touch.

Important News
Math Acceleration
Some of you have reached out regarding Math Acceleration opportunities over the summer. At this time we are looking into the best way to assess students in order to place them in the correct math class in the Fall. Due to the impact of COVID, some of our traditional ways of assessing summer learning (in-person math assessments) are not available to us. We are looking into new ways to assess student knowledge to ensure they are ready to accelerate into a higher Math class.
Please stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Thank you,
Shawn Swick
Assistant Principal
Administrative Transfers 2020-2021
If you are considering applying for an Administrative Transfer for the 2020-2021 school year, please take time to review the following information.
All parents who submit a request prior to June 1, should be notified by June 30.
All requests submitted after June 1 will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
The principal of the student's resident school will initiate contact with the principal at the school where the student has applied to attend.
Both principals must agree to the transfer for it to be considered approved.
Copies of the completed application will be distributed by the resident school, pending a letter or telephone conversation with the parents/guardians of the student, regarding the final recommendation.
The receiving school principal may revoke an Administrative Student Transfer at any time if there is no evidence the student has benefited from the transfer, as evidenced by behavior, attendance, or academic achievement.
Capacity at the receiving school can be a reason that an Administrative Student Transfer is denied even if a student qualifies for hardship.
Hardship is defined as the student:
is being impacted by a parent or guardian's military deployment
is experiencing instability related to homelessness or foster care placement
has a documented medical condition that necessitates a transfer
is impacted by the death of a parent
there is severe financial hardship for the family
is involved in a documented case of severe harassment, intimidation, bullying or cyber-bullying
Art Projects/Materials
If your student has an art project that they would like to retrieve, we will find an opportunity to return them. Projects left in Ms. Gillard's room will not be discarded. Once we are able to get back in the building or find an opportunity to have her go in and organize them, we will coordinate a plan for pick up. If you have any questions about this please let us know.
AVID Recruitment
The AVID application deadline has passed. If your student applied for AVID class for next year, they will hear about whether they are in the class next year or not, by mid June. Students who are not selected for the class this fall can reapply in the future.

Stoller PTO
Thank you from Stoller PTO
As we close out a most unusual school year, Stoller PTO would like to thank parents and the school community for your support.
In the fall, we kicked off an ambitious fundraising effort "50 for 50”, with a goal of raising $50k through contributions of $50 per family. This fundraising was successful through your donations and ongoing company matching. By spring, we had achieved $45K toward our goal. Thank you!
Your donations to the “50 for 50” campaign enabled the creation of the Stoller Marching Band and funded ongoing programs like Art Literacy, classroom supplies and subscriptions, staff training, and school enhancement projects. Our remaining PTO staff appreciation budget was used to provide Stoller Staff with Amazon gift cards in lieu of catered meals during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
While funds are critical, it is the volunteers who make these programs happen! Thank you for donating your time and talents to enhance the school experience of Stoller students.
Moving forward, we will roll our remaining PTO funds into next year’s budget. This will allow us to quickly address special needs for the 20-21 school year or finish planned projects we could not implement this year due to stay-at-home measures.
Several of our PTO Board members will retain their positions to ensure we can quickly get up to speed in the fall. We invite you to be a part of the Stoller PTO board! If interested, please contact stollerptopres@gmail.com.
Thank you!

Stoller Volunteers
Thank you 2019-2020 Stoller Volunteers! Whether you volunteered in the classroom or behind the scenes ... Thank You! Your involvement helps make Stoller Middle School an active community.
As we come to the end of the school year, many of you will be moving on to support other schools. Please refer to stollerpto.com/volunteer for instructions on how to:
- Retire as a Stoller volunteer
- Add a new school to your volunteer profile
- Leave the BSD volunteer system
These changes in status require action on your part to update/manage your volunteer profile. It is not automatically updated as your child changes schools.
Thank you for giving your time and talents to Stoller this school year!
