For 4th grade Students & Parents of Bill Burden Elementary
October 10-14, 2016
We are jumping into the second grading period!
We are already headed into the second week of the second grading period! There is a lot to accomplish in our five week grading period, and we have not wasted any time moving into our new units! Please encourage your students to keep up the good work!
We have several special things going on this grading period. Please make sure to take note of the following dates!
Second Grading Period Character Trait: Be A Problem Solver
Monday, October 10th is a Student Holiday. There will be NO SCHOOL on this day.
Times:
8:30-9:15- Barreras, Powell, Burks, Teter, Openshaw, Bishop and Tucker
9:25-10:10- Wood, Lively, Bahr, Lynn, Haffelder, and Stippick
Students are invited to come in costume! This will be the only day that students will be permitted to wear costumes to school.
Remember:
-no blood, guts, or gore
-no fake weapons
-no face paint
-Bill Burden staff request that no clown costumes be worn
A classroom costume contest will replace the costume parade this year.
Volunteers are needed to help make this event a success for our kids. Please let your child's teacher know if you will be available to help with this event.

Math
In Math, we are finishing our unit on Multiplication.
We will be working on multiplying a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number as well as multiplying a 2-digit by a 2-digit number. Your students will also be learning about arrays, area models, and square numbers.
Science & Social Studies
In Science, we have been continuing to learn about Energy. We have learned the acronym MELTS. Ask your student what it stands for!
We will specifically be looking at conductors and insulators.
In Social Studies we're continuing our unit on Native Americans of Texas. We will be learning about their political systems and way of life in addition to looking at the present day Native Americans of Texas. We will also use our knowledge learned in our Texas Regions Unit to determine how the features of the region they lived in affected their way of life!
Reading & Writing
In ELAR we are moving from biographies to autobiographies! We will be looking at the unique elements of autobiographies and comparing the similarities and differences of biographies and autobiographies. We will continue strengthening and refining our writing skills as well continue to work on our biographies of another students in our class.
***** IMPORTANT INFORMATION****
Due to technical issues within our Skyward program, we will NOT be able to implement the new transportation system safely at this time.
All changes to afternoon transportation will be by phone calls to the front office. This must happen before 2 p.m.
No texts, emails, or written notes will be accepted.
Limit transportation changes.
Utilize our voice mail system and leave a detailed message regarding the change. We MUST have: student name, teacher name, destination physical address, and a return phone number for any questions.
- The office will not return calls to verify we got the voice mail.

Become a Preferred Panther!
- Pre-Register to attend select school events ahead of time
- Pre-Register OTHER family members who wish to attend, as long as the family members have completed the 1-2-3 steps of obtaining a Panther Pass at our campus
- Avoid the long visitor lines waiting to be scanned into Raptor and have your own badge waiting for you at the front office for large events
OBTAINING YOUR PREFERRED PANTHER STATUS IS AS EASY AS 1-2-3 !
- Bring a valid photo I.D. into our campus
- Your information will be entered into our Raptor system
- Obtain your Visitor Badge and enjoy your visit with us!
Now you have Panther Pass status in our Raptor System at our campus.
Next time you visit our campus, you will no longer need to bring a photo I.D. with you!
