ALL Aboard
Can you afford not to be a member?
The Association for Language Learning (ALL) is the UK's major subject association for teachers of foreign languages - all languages, at all levels, in all sectors.
Of the 500,000 teachers in England, more than 65,000 are full members of subject associations and over 250,000 are connected to subject associations by e-newsletters, social media and attendance at events, meaning that they are:
- up to date in their subject
- part of their subject community
- pursuing their own learning
- accessing dedicated sources of information.
Are you and your colleagues part of these figures?
Why should your school join ALL?
“The Association for Language Learning brings together everything that is important to me professionally; from ideas for my day-to-day classroom teaching to the implications of policy changes at national level. Sharing ideas with other teachers gives me the inspiration I need for another day on the job(!), and joining my voice to that of other teachers empowers me with a sense of identity and professionalism that I cannot get from any other organisation. I would simply not be the teacher I am without ALL.” Dr Rachel Hawkes, Director of International Education and Research, Comberton Academy Trust
Why is it important to be a member of ALL?
“It is particularly important now as there are very few language advisers left and belonging to the association helps teachers to find out important information about changes to Programmes of Study, examination board specifications and the latest research too.” Liz Black, teacher of primary and secondary languages, PGCE tutor at York University and freelance consultant
What do you like best about membership of ALL?
“I love the opportunities for professional development and networking, sharing good practice with like-minded colleagues from different contexts. We can learn so much from one another! I really appreciate the range of support offered by ALL, including the amazing annual conferences, the website, the journals and the magazine. I also value the opportunity to be involved in the ALL London branch to meet local MFL enthusiasts. I have absolutely no doubt that being a member of ALL has helped me to gain interesting jobs throughout my career, too, and I promote the value of ALL membership wherever I go!” Anna Lise Gordon, PGCE Academic Director and MFL tutor at St Mary's University, Twickenham
