Weekly Warrior Update
December 4, 2022
I hope you and your family are enjoying the holiday season. This past week our Choir program hosted their Rockin’ Holiday performance on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. This was an amazing show that kicked off the holiday season in a fun way. As we go into next week, we have a few big items that we would like to highlight.
First, this week is Inclusive Schools Week where we highlight and recognize all the unique people and groups that make our school, community, and world so special. Each day we will have multiple activities for students to participate in so please see the information attached and in our s’more.
Second, during this Holiday Season, please support our PTSA through School Cents. This is an easy program that has big rewards for Westlake High School. All you need to do is upload copies of your receipts when you shop, eat, or watch movies at the Oaks mall. In addition, we get extra points for donating to St. Jude’s and if you go to the Santa picture experience. Please see more specifics and details in our newsletter.
Third, this is a reminder that coming up on Tuesday, December 6th, Westlake High School is hosting their Future Warrior Night! This is a great opportunity to see the campus and attend informational sessions about all the exciting opportunities that your students will have as a Warrior. The evening festivities begin at 5:30pm in the Gym. Also, prior to the WHS PTSA is hosting a couple food options so you do not even need to worry about dinner that night. See attached for more information and details. This information can also be found on their website at www.conejousd.org/whs.
Finally, be reminded that our Winter Break is upcoming and will take place December 19th through January 2nd with school resuming on January 3rd.
Thank you for reviewing all this information and here is to a great couple weeks before Winter Break in Warrior Country!
Please spread the word to any students/families looking to attend Westlake High School - Future Warrior Night (December 6th)!

2nd Semester Ethnic Studies Twilight Class Opportunity
If you are unsure about what Ethnic Studies is, here is some additional information. The goal of CVUSD’s course “Ethnic Studies in America” is to help students understand their own identity and that of those around them by accurately portraying the cultural and racial diversity of our society in pursuit of the American Dream. The content of the course seeks to empower all students to engage socially and politically and to think critically about the contributions and struggles of diverse communities. In an effort to achieve this goal, the Ethnic Studies course includes the documentation of the experiences of diverse communities in order for students to develop a more complex understanding of the American experience.
Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary social science course that seeks to, in the words of the California History-Social Science Framework, “address content considered missing from traditional curriculum and to encourage meaningful engagement” through the analysis and critique of history as it relates to historically disenfranchised groups. Ethnic Studies encourages students to explore the historic struggles, current experiences, and perspectives of people of color, including where the axes of racial and ethnic identity intersect with gender, class, sexuality, and other components of what may define an individual or community.
