Classroom Happenings

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Save-the-date: Central's spring music program will be taking place on April 12th at 7pm. Mr. Meyer will be sending a letter home soon.

We do not have school tomorrow (January 15th) or Monday (January 18th). I hope you enjoy the long weekend! :)


Scholastic Book Orders:

The January Scholastic Book Orders went home last week. If you are interested in ordering online, please visit: scholastic.com/readingclub and use our class activation code: NG6FZ. You can also get books by filling out the order form and including a check made out to Scholastic Reading Club. All orders are due by Friday, January 22nd. Happy ordering! :)

Student Council:

Our Student Council is sponsoring The Pet Project which will benefit the Porter County Animal Shelter. The project is currently underway and goes until Friday, January 29th. Items we are looking for include:

  • old towels
  • pet food
  • pet shampoo
  • collars
  • kitty litter
  • toys
  • old pet crates
  • leashes
  • paper towels
  • puppy pad


We are beginning Chapter 7 which explores electricity. This week, we will be discussing the following topics:

  • vocabulary
  • static electricity
  • current electricity

Social Studies

We are taking a break from social studies. We will pick it up again in March.


We are wrapping up our unit on division this week. Students will receive a short study guide on Tuesday and will have time to work on it in class. We will go over the answers that same day. The test will be on Wednesday. Students need to be familiar with the following skills:
  • solving division story problems with remainders
  • interpreting how to represent the remainder (i.e. whole number, fraction, cents for money problems)
  • standard division algorithm


Due to last week being short, our unit 5, week 2 material is spilling into this upcoming week. We will finish up our study of trickster tales on Tuesday. Students will take their unit 5 test on Wednesday. The unit 5 test will include questions involving the following skills:
  • using the text to support answers
  • using context clues
  • comparing and contrasting
  • using features of trickster tales

Students will be taking their quarterly STAR Reading and STAR Math tests during reading on Thursday and Friday.


We are continuing to explore the different parts of essays.
