Scott Joplin was a Musican and a Composer. He was the fifth child out of six kids. His mom's name was Florence Joplin. His dad's name was Giles Joplin. Scott Joplin grew up on a farm in Texas. He went to school at Lincoln High School. Also sometime in the 1800's he moved to Sedalia.
Piano man
He started playing piano at an early age. He took lessons from a German-born music teacher named Julius Weiss.
The Composer
He was born in 1868 (not sure what day or month). He died April 1st, 1917.
King of Rag-time writers
Joplins song "Maple Leaf Rag" featured a pleasing melody and a catchy beat. It became a classic model of a ragtime music and thrust Joplin into the national spotlight.
Why was Scott Joplin remembered
He wrote music like jazz and rag time they would say. He wrote 44 original piano pieces. Joplin was like other African American musicans of that time period. He was praised but not fully included in white society.
