News You Need to Know about JHS!--January 2021
Welcome to January--Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2021 is a bit more stable than 2020. At any rate, we will continue to provide our students with the best education possible--in spite of all the current turmoil. With that said, we are back to in person learning starting January 4. Of course, families still have the option to attend virtually. According to the current Indiana Department of Health data, Elkhart County is still in the red as COVID positivity rates remain high. With this in mind, we will still expect everyone in our building to wear masks, wash hands, and practice social distancing when possible. We must all do our part to get through this pandemic. Let's hope the positivity rate starts to drop.
So we are back in the swing of things this month. We will have our choir and band concerts this month since they were postponed last month. Winter sports continue to move along with limited seating, and spring sports start to ramp up their preseason conditioning programs. We also start the ball rolling with scheduling for next year, so we can start to look at next year's master schedule. The school will be abuzz with lots of activity.
Seniors are in their 8th and final semester of high school. While this is an exciting time, there is also the annual battle with "senioritis" for some. We are telling our seniors they have 18 weeks to the rest of their lives! This last semester will go quickly, so seniors, make sure you are paying attention to all the details. We do not want any surprises--bad ones anyway--as we gear up for graduation. Parents, we want to work with you to make sure your senior crosses that stage and gets that diploma. Communicate early and often with teachers when you have concerns. #18weekstogo!
As I said earlier, we are looking forward to a positive semester. Together, we got this!

Jimtown Senior SHINES!
A BIG congratulations to JHS Senior Camri Garretson! Camri was selected to receive a Lilly Endowment Scholarship, which will cover her entire college tuition to any Indiana college or university. This scholarship is highly selective and competitive, so being named one of three winners in Elkhart county is quite an accomplishment. We are confident Camri will be successful in the future. Way to represent Jimtown High School!
JHS Health Science Education Pathway News
This group of remarkable Seniors have completed a series of dual credit and high school-based college credit health sciences courses which include Medical Terminology, Health Science Education-I/Introduction to Health Careers, Basic Life Support (BLS) Training, Anatomy & Physiology and Health Science Education-2/Senior Capstone. The courses include classroom learning, simulation lab with hands-on technical skills training, and internship, work-based learning opportunities.
This month we are proud to feature Huda AlTimeemi, Lizzie Kallimani, Emma Deak and Christopher Maldonado. These 4 students will begin two challenging Electrocardiography courses through Ivy Tech in the Spring Semester to round out their Senior Capstone. This past Fall semester, they worked on patient care technical skills and phlebotomy. Very impressive!
Go get it, guys! We are so very proud of you!!

2nd Semester Attendance--In Person and Virtual
Our goal is for every student to earn every credit. One of the largest hurdles to this is attendance. However, attendance is one of the easier "fixes" in terms of student performance. Students need to be in class to be successful.
On January 7, a letter was sent via email to both parents and students reminding them of our attendance expectations for both in-person and virtual learning. You can click the link below to review the letter. And of course if you have questions or concerns, please contact us.
