MVLA
Message from the Superintendent
December 16, 2021
Dear MVLAHSD Families,
This morning we were made aware of a nationwide TikTok challenge that has resulted in students posting threats of violence to schools for Friday, December 17. The reports indicate that these posts are being shared across the country through students forwarding them to others. We have not received any threats or warnings for any schools in MVLAHSD.
Although the TikTok challenge appears to have been intended for students to try to get out of school tomorrow, law enforcement has been notified, and we will have an increased police presence around our school campuses on Friday as an added precaution. We will continue to monitor and inform families if any more information becomes available to ensure that all MVLAHSD schools remain safe.
We have confidence in our student body to follow through with their semester-ending activities in a respectful and mature manner but wanted you to be aware of this attempt at disruption. Please take this opportunity to have a conversation with your student about the seriousness and resulting consequences of making any threat. We encourage all parents, guardians, and students to report any threats directly to their school administration or through the anonymous tip link on the school website so that we may respond to them appropriately.
We know that the vast majority of our students engage in doing the right thing every day, showing respect for their schools, other students, and school staff. We thank them for their positive examples in creating positive, safe, and welcoming school environments.
Sincerely,
Nellie Meyer
Superintendent
