Monday Memo #10
Evidence...#engageHB
As you know, this week, we'll begin to schedule an ambitious series of formal teacher observations that will continue through the month of May. In my role, it's an opportunity to visit classrooms and invest time with our students. It's also an opportunity for us to reflect together on best practices in high quality instruction. As a learner myself, I always appreciate honing my craft as an instructional leader; a favorite aspect of being Principal. In preparing for this, the word that seems to jump out at me regularly is the term evidence. As an observer, it's my responsibility to look for it, and for our teachers, to provide it, based on each domain within the Danielson Rubric.
Anyone who makes the time to visit our weekly HBMS Monday Memo understands the collective value we hold of evidence. Evidence of engagement, evidence of intentional teaching, and evidence of goal-setting, of progress and of personal success. From our Advisory Menu, to our photos, to our monthly slide shows, and our "one-a-day" articles, the evidence of our dedication to learning is everywhere we look.
When I visit classrooms, either formally or informally, I can easily see evidence of teacher preparation, instruction that is responsive to our students, and in turn, of student learning. But, as much as I'd like, I can never all places at once. None of us can!
This is one of the most valuable aspects of taking a moment to step back and appreciate how, as a Faculty, we #engageHB. Over the last several years, we have all seen the growing evidence of great things happening in our classrooms and our school. Through #engageHB, we can share it with one another, with our parents, and with our school community.
The invitation to #engageHB is open to everyone. If you've accepted the invite, keep contributing, and invite a colleague. If you are curious, keep observing. And when you are ready to join, please don't be afraid to ask how you can be part of the celebration, of high quality learning experiences we are providing for our adolescent learners.
So, who is ready to challenge one another to #engageHB?
Let's have a great week together,
Dennis
