Weekly Update
Dear LSUU Community,
You can feel the excitement in the air as students prepare for graduation ceremonies, end-of-year celebrations, and the transition to a Vermont summer. This was quite the week with our tennis team taking the state championship, two incredible drama performances, Morristown Elementary students singing the National Anthem at a Mountaineers game, Stowe Elementary enjoying a visit from a helicopter, middle schoolers voyaging on some fun field trips, and many, many more special moments.
Tomorrow Stowe High School will hold its graduation outdoors, and on Sunday the baseball team will take on rival Hazen at Centennial Field for the state championship. It's safe to say, our students are ending the year on a great note!
This will be my last Ledger of the year and I hope the weekly communication was helpful. Our students have come a long way over the past 10 months and summer will be a great time to reset our focus and think about ways we can improve and come back even stronger in the fall.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend and summer vacation. If you would like to connect over the summer and share any ideas, thoughts, or feedback, please always feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
Ryan Heraty

LSUU Board Updates
This week, there were several important actions taken by the LSUU School Board. The board voted to approve the Portrait of a Graduate process which will be starting next year. The district will be working closely with Up for Learning, a Vermont-based organization that will assist with gathering student, parent, educator, and community feedback as we develop a new vision for the educational quality of our district.
Regarding the Stowe withdrawal discussion, the board also voted to appoint three LSUU board members (David Bickford, Tiffany Donza, and Erica Loomis) to work with two self-selected community representatives to prepare a report and timeline that will be put forward to the Vermont State Board of Education. The two self-selected representatives, Jim Brochhausen and Leigh Pelletier, are both former school board members that were heavily involved in the process to allow Stowe to withdraw from LSUU with the hope of reconstituting the organizational structure that was in place prior to 2019 when the State merged the two school districts into one. The legislation to allow this process to move forward was signed by the Governor on Tuesday and was discussed in public session by the LSUU board on Tuesday night.
The goal of these discussions will be to prepare a plan and timeline that can be shared with the State Board to meet the goals of recent legislation and allow the district to reconstitute the structure that worked well for the three towns for many years. What is critical to know is that students will not be negatively impacted at all by this governance restructuring, and the positive elements of a consolidated district such as joint sports teams, shared resources, and taking care of all students will remain at the center of all planning. The biggest change would be the creation of two school boards and one supervisory board which will increase community participation in local decision making.
