Week 9 Term 2 Panui
Wednesday - 21st June 2023
Principal Message
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Greetings to you all.
It has been a busy time with lots of school events recently. We are thrilled at the level of participation shown in the Jumping June, Helicopter Appeal and School Cross Country. As a community, we have raised over $34,000 for the Heart Foundation and $570 for the rescue helicopter - amazing stuff! It was awesome to see the level of skill and fitness gained through the combination of skipping and cross country training this term. A huge thanks to the Friends of Witherlea for running the bake sale and sausage sizzle yesterday which was a lovely enhancement to the day and generated $650 for the pastoral care that removes financial barriers to enable all children to access the curriculum at Witherlea. Well done to all runners for their excellent participation, effort and sportsmanship shown in the races yesterday and congratulations to the following students for placing in their age groups:

Next week the Term 3 events calendar will be distributed to the eldest/only child in each family - keep an eye out for this in your child's bag.
On Wednesday 28th of June we have our annual Matariki Hikoi followed by an open morning where you can pop into classes and see some of the amazing learning that's been happening and also check out a Matariki Art exhibition that will be displayed in the hall. For new families, we start on the top court at 7.00am with a short ceremony consisting of a welcome address and some kapa haka performances. At 7.20am we will walk up to the Tea House and sing some waiata while enjoying the sunrise. When we return there will be milo (BYO mugs) and scones made by our school staff. If you wish to contribute to the kai you are most welcome to drop this at the hall upon arrival. Following this our classrooms will be open for families to look at wall displays and see the progress in children's books. We hope you can make it to this special community event.
Written reports will be sent home with children in sealed envelopes next Friday and you are encouraged to book a Learning Conference for the first week of next term to discuss your child's progress and next steps in more detail. Thank you to our amazing teachers for the enormous amount of thought and time that goes into producing individualised reports alongside their day to day teaching responsibilities.
